Seeing Double!!!

Super nice rifle. I can only dream of being in the position to spend that much dosh on a gun.

One question: What's with the penny pic for doubters? Am I missing something?

The rifle is regulated or the 500gr Trophy Bonded Federal Premium load (of course). Trust the Germans to regulate it with the pricey ($244 a box from Wolverine) ammo. I'm hoping to handload some for practice (if the handloads regulate without too much fooling around) and probably use factory when it comes time for serious hunting.

Speaking of Africa, I'm headed to Zimbabwe to hunt Buffalo this summer. I'm taking a whirl at getting an export permit despite being told by DFAIT that they will not allow the export, even temporary export for hunting, of firearms to Zimbabwe. If necessary I'll be taking the case to the Minister of DFAIT as this ruling, lumping sporting arms in the same category as artillery or a sea-can of AK-47s is absolutely asinine.

The LOP might be a bit short - we'll know that for sure he first few times I touch her off. They list it as 13.5" but it feels much better than I had expected. When mounted quickly the sights line up perfecly for my eye so the only question will be whether or not I get a thumb in the nose under recoil!

The penny in the pic is a sort of CGN standard...guys will post about somthing new and wonderful (ie receiving a H&H Double from their elderly neighbour) and not post any pics. After a few pages someone will demand a photo of the rifle with penny on the stock. At that point the troll usully disappears into the ether. I thought I'd head off anyone who decided to question my integrity right at the start.

Range report to follow as soon as I locate some ammunition. Maybe there's some at the Northern Store! :D

BUG - great rifle!!! I used my merkel 140 for quite some time - shot some dangerous game with it and loved it before I got upset with the recoil smashing my trigger finger on the front of the guard.

I am about 6 ft 2 inch with long arms. I had Nik Makinson put an articulated front trigger (I think yours may have come with that) and he also put on a very thick Kick Eeze pad with spacers! to bring the LOP to a little over 15 inches. I thought it came up well before - but I was hunching a bit. Now - it is simply amazing - lift and it is bang on the target and no more hurt shoulders or smashed fingers!

Mine did double once in a while from a very tiny burr on a sear that no one saw for quite some time, but that is ironed out - but I would and did trust my life to it. Great weapon but make it fit and make sure it works in all ways

BTW I also had the auto safety disconnected - no desire to mess with that
