Hey, first off, sorry for posting again. (A new thread, that is). However, this is a specific question:

What is the shortest non-restricted pump-action shotgun I can buy in Canada (production obviously not some sawn-off)? (Don't worry, I DO NOT plan on any illegal activity, this is for sporting purposes)

I know the overall length has to be 26" as long as the barrel is factory mae short, so I was wondering, who produces one from the factory to this bare minimum and keeps it non-restricted?

Reason I ask is that I was going to buy a handgun, but got fed up with the whole restricted part (My friend has an enormous property out in the middle of nowhere...and since we can't have fun with handguns, I was hoping the next best thing would be a super short non-restricted shotgun - tactical fun!)

I don't think that the Serbu Super Shorty would qualify (I wish it did), I think its too short by a few inches....

Again, pump action, not the Coach guns made by Dominion.

Thanks guys! I know someone on here is going to know, you guys have all the info a young guy/noob like me needs! haha

The only things you have to follow is that the total length can't be shorter then 26", and the barrel length can't be shorter then 18.5". You can get Remington 870s that short, and Marstar.ca has some Chinese Norinco knock-offs of the 870 that are that short.

There are Norinco HP-9 870 knock-offs with 14 inch barrels, they are non-restricted. The barrel does not have to be 18-1/2 inches, there are many exceptions for factory barrels that are shorter, as long as the overall length of the firearm is over 660 mm (I think thats the length.)

Really? Because there are norinco's with 14" barrels for sale through Frontier, and the dominion SxS are like 12.5 or something...super short. Iwas pretty sure in Canada all we had to worry about was that it was 26" total length, as long as the barrel is FACTORY short..not sawn off. If it is SAWN off under 18", it becomes prohib. But if the total length is 26", and the barrel is 12" factory, we should be good, as long as your stock si 14", for a OAL of 26".

So that's why I was asking is there is anything bare minimum that is non-restricted.

Yea, I thought that was the case. (see my second post above)

As already stated, a barrel on a manual action can be cut down to 18" and a semi-auto can be cut down to 18.5". If a barrel is cut down further than that it becomes prohibited.

On a manual action the barrels can be manufactured shorter than 18" as long as the OAL is followed.

Alrighty...so now that the facts are straight, and I was correct ( lol :D ) ....

Any one know of a manufacturer other than the Norinco 14" barreled 870 knockoff? Something maybe shorter? I want it to be my tacticool toy... I will most probably buy one shotgun just for bird hunting...and one for target/range "hunting" lol (the shorty)

I think the Blueline Activities 8.5 inch barreled 870 is the shortest available. In oder to maintain a non-restricted designation a normal stock must be installed. Search the Shotun section of the EE and their thread will come up.

8.5", I am liking that.... so its essentially a legal kit people buy and put on an 870? Or does it have to be factory installed and purchased via Blueline..?

Yup, I was just looking at that....also saw the price tag! haha

I may stick with a tactical/hunting shotgun like a Remington 870.

Here's a question....Is it legal for me to buy a remington 870, then buy a kit to shorten it to the minimum 26" OAL? (like barrel, mag tube, etc, to make it short, but keep the 870 receiver).

It is still legal to have a really short pump action shotgun with a 6.5" barrel and a pistol grip but it will be restricted if it's overall length is less than 26". You could just buy a Remington 870 and then buy the shortest aftermarket barrel from Dlask that would still keep the overall length over 26".

You can get dominion Arms grizzlies with short barrels, like 12" I think. Dlask makes 6 or 8" barrels for the 870.

Do they also make a mag tube shortener? lol I think the 870 has what? 5 or 6 shots? That would sick out SO far past the barrel!

I think there are aftermarket magazine tubes you can get that are shortened. maybe hold 3 rounds or so. A mag tube designed for a 18.5 barreled gun would look really out of place with an 8" barrel.
