Ok I am posting this out of desparation, I can not take this anymore its pissing me off.
So I went to WSS the other day and bought a tasco 6-24x42mm. http://www.tasco.com/single.cfm?s=Riflescopes&family=Target & Varmint&product=var624x42m
And the guy at the counter gave me these rings: http://www.weaveroptics.com/rings_bases/rings/detachable_alum/standard_detachable.aspx
Well I tried to get those rings to fit around. The just couldn't, its almost as if the scope is too big, cause the rings were tight around the scope, but the top strap was still offset enough so that the screws would just cross-thread when I tried to screw them in. So I thought we better measure the scope to see if it is 1", so take the digital calipers and it is 1.022", and the rings were for 1" scopes so I tried again. And the same old story, I even screwed in the screws to there holes to make sure they were not just cross threading right off the bat. So no Dice so I went to my local gunshop to pick up another set.
So I go and buy another set. These were just your generic brand, ones that look like this: http://www.weaveroptics.com/rings_bases/rings/grandslamsteel/topmount.aspx (except not weaver brand).
So first thing I do is measure them with the calipers, and yep when they are there smallest they are .9500 inches. So I go and set my scope in them and, what the heck at the sides of the ring it touches, but on the bottom and top there is about 1-2mm of space, so I am pissed.
I am thinking of ordering a set of those grand slam steel rings, or do you guys have any other suggestions, cause alls i'm left with now is a set of cross threaded rings, and scratched scope, and a set of rings that don't work....

It sounds like you are trying to force the top halves on... With Weaver rings you can't just set everything on and tighten them down.
