Norc SKS, Military or Commercial

I can tell you the difference between my Norc and 1952 Tula refurb:

1) Stock is nicer on the russian, that arctic birch is really nice. The chinese mystery wood seems soft and looks fugly.
2) The cleaning rod on the Norinco rattles like crazy, the Russian doesn't.
3) My cleaning kit buttstock spring broke on the Norinco within a week, the Russian one is fine.
4) The Russian one is more accurate, barely.
5) The bolt on the Tula is far smoother
6) The Russian flings brass like 15 feet up and to the right, the Chinese maybe 3 feet.
7) The Chinese norinco is pinned aesthetically nicer than my Russian. There's this big round block of plastic or metal in the bottom of the magazine and an ugly rivet sticking out the bottom.
8) The top handguard has less wiggle and play on my russian.
9) The bolt is blued on my Russian while the Chinese is just straight metal.
10) The Chinese I find harder to strip down.

Basically I have a nice SKS and a beater. I use the Chinese for hunting and the Russian for, well I don't know why the hell I bought it but I did and I like it.

edit - looks like I totally misunderstood the OP

I'm trying to figure out how you tell the difference.
If that's even possible.

My norc sks have this inscription on the receiver: sks 7.62x39mm made in N.J CHINA EXP BY NORINCO.GZ
He have a stamped trigger guard, pinned barrel and the finish is not as good as my russian ones so i think that's a commercial model late production.

Everything on mine is milled and the barrel is threaded on. "SKS 762x39mm Made in China" on the side.

Other areas just had 06497 of the serial # on it.

And these cause they had the number 33 in them, ??

thanks for the pics.

like russia , china do not provide much info on manufacturing and bcos of their serial numbering system, its also hard to tell when it was made.

at this point the only factory we can tell for certain when a SKS were made are from factory 26.

im trying to come up with a system whereby at least we could classify them as early , mid or late production .

yours is a mid-production and that is bcos of the short barrel lug so yours is a military . sometime during the late production they made for commercial . research still ongoing .

You may also be interested in knowing that the stock has the side mounted swivel and I thought there was no sn on it, but there is a VERY faint sn on it, that does not match the rifle:)()

Rifle seems solid as a rock.

yours is easy cos its from /26\ . made in 1966 , its class as mid production (military).

norinco is the exporter and the P.T.K is the importer , originally to the USA.
