Evolution of a Stevens 200

Very nice looking.
I just got the same stock in Pepper Laminate for my Stevens (.243).
The guard screw holes line up good, but the problem is going to be the fact that the original screws are too short for the laminate stock.
Did you guys have the same problem, and how did you overcome it?
I'll be glass-bedding it for sure, not sure yet if I'll pillar bed it. It's going to be my winter project.

Yes, I did find that the front screw is too short. I purchased a longer 1/4" fine thread bolt from the hardware store. I counter sunk it because it has an allen head. The rear screw which goes through the front of the trigger guard was usable.

post it please. :)

Ok, I wanted to wait until my new SSS stock came in. Here it is in the bondo stock painted with Kylon.
Barrel is a take off from a Savage 10fp in 7mmRM. Metal is all Kera-coated by local GS who also installed the break. The break is pretty ugly but it was something the GS had lying around and he gave me a deal on it and this entire project has been trying to see how cheap I could build a long range rifle. The farthest I have taken it out is 656yds and it still shot about 5.5" if I remember. I need to try it again since I had the break installed. I can shoot it a lot more consistently without the huge recoil.

GPRacer,

That is an object worthy of gun lust: nice work.

How does a stock like that handle in the Field? Or is it strictly for target use? (Yeah, I am still learning)

I guess it depends on the shooter, I find the thumbhole and/or a pistol grip easier to steady in the field, the Stevens will see active field use coyote hunting for sure.

Looks Great !!!!

I have a Stevens in .223 and was thinking of looking at

for stock options?

Apparently, if you do not hold your throat while gazing into a mirror and repeating My Stock will arrive quickly for 20 minutes a day, then you can have a bit of a wait.

You could PM this guy. he got a nice stock from there. I am waiting for the same one, but I know the mantra. :D

boyd lists the weight of the stock on their site, but how much does the gun weigh after the stock replacement?

Apparently the formula is :

stock + barrelled action including trigger + scope = total weight of the gun. ;)

Wow! I'm a posting machine this morning. Wonder if its because I got up at 5am to go to the range but could'nt face the drive and now I'm bored ####less.
