LEBARON now sells sks's

Most of the LeBaron's rifles are refurbished. An all matching, non refurbished is worth more to collectors. There is a stickied thread about the different traits, and their desireability. If you're going to shoot the crap out of it, look for one in good shape, with a nice bore.

My 1953 Tula has a chrome bore but I did not buy it from Le Barons. I think 1952 and earlier SKSs do not have chromed bores so be careful should you wish to fire corrosive ammo through them.

Lebaron Ottawa

I agree, though they rarely have anything I'm looking for in stock (no fault of the staff but of the head office), the staff is quite friendly.

I don't find the Ottawa store employees to be rude. They never have anything in stock, but they've atleast been polite. The old guy is even downright helpful.

EDIT: They are now in stock at the Ottawa store. The ones I saw were all refurbished, frankenpinned, blued, silver bolt. I bought one. $180 is too cheap to pass up.

Called today and they are out of stock in Ottawa.

I've always found lebarons rude.

Last year I accompanied a friend there who was planning on buying a new 30-06 rifle and a scope, cash in pocket. Some little punk blocked our way into the gun room because there was too many people in there or some lame excuse and refused to move. Anyone we talked to was annoyed with us demanding service so we just left and bought the stuff elsewhere.

They also don't let you see the ammo, you have to make the girls at the cash hunt for it and waste lots of time. CT shows ammo, surely an outdoors store could. And they write your PAL info down which is annoying.

Is sks sold at le baron are chrome lined bore? Does anyone bought there? In laminate or hardwood.

I bought a 1951 from LeBaron and it appears to have a chrome bore, I could be wrong, but it shines like a mirror, so that's my best guess.
You have to consider that even though the rifle may have been manufactured prior to the switch to chrome, it may have been rebarreled to chrome when refurbished.

We grabbed two yesterday at LeBaron in Ottawa - both 53's, and in very nice condition...Both bores are chrome lined, and the mags are frankenpinned... they touched up the welds with black paint, which we removed, and re-blued....looks much nicer now...

We've always received excellent service at LeBaron - staff, management, cashiers have all been great!

It was my first time at the Montreal outlet and was given excellent service. I even went out of my way to thank the staff for their service......Everyone was very polite. :)

what else can you expect from Le barons?
there are three things You can absolutely count on and You will always find in their stores and especially the one in Mississauga.
and here is the list:

  1. No Stock
  2. Very rude staff in the gunroom
  3. highest level of incompetence in the gunroom

You have to admit, it will not be easy to find all this "qualities" concentrated in one store...

That's why I didn't even bother to go there today, despite the fact I was driving past it.

The Mississauga store has to be the worst in the country.

I showed up yesterday and asked for the SKS. \"Sold out\". Ok, I look around. Ask if they have snap caps for 7.62x39mm, the stupid old man tells me that they don\'t like selling \"that kind of stuff\". But you have no problems selling the rifles chambered in 7.62x39mm? Get a stupid look. The bald idiot was also listening and said something incomprehensible, I assume equally stupid.

On the way out, I saw fatty at the counter and asked him if they have armour piercing Soviet ammo to piss him off.

I encourage everyone local to go there and mess with them. Ask for Uzis, AR-15s and hollow point ammunition.

hahaha

Well I ordered mine via the web so no rude staff for me! $210 shipped to BC for a 1954 Izzy refurb with only the receiver, gas tube and bolt matching. The rest are forced matched and the magazine is frankenpinned. Of interesting note, the hardwood stock on mine is from 1950. They've cleaned them down and oiled them before they ship them. Silver bolt and chrome bore. I was hoping that a sight adjustment would come with it like the tradex special but it doesn't. Less stuff comes with it but at least it's shootable straight out the box. Excellent for someone who needs an extra SKS kicking around. Looks are pretty run of the mill SKS.

I have seen changes in Woodbine store employees' attitudes. There are somewhat more smiles and some politeness there. both in the gun room and front. Or maybe it is my imagination!

Was into the sauga store with a friend today to pick up a couple sks'. Everyone was extremely polite and friendly. Both the guys in the gunroom were awesome, helped up pick out a couple nice ones, then did all the paperwork super fast. Went up front, asked for the crate of ammo, someone wheeled it up with a cart and offered to bring it out to the truck for us. We carried it outselves, but every single person in that store was EXTREMELY polite and courteous.

Maybe it helps to go in with a positive attitude and a smile on ones face, thats what we did, and I know both my friend and I will be going back there for more ammo and supplies after our VERY positive experience.

my 2 cents :)
