The elusive 1949 Russian SKS

First of all thank you for the pictures always nice to see some pictures. I read up on 1949 but if you have some pointers for me let me know in PM.

This is by far not exhaustive, but some things to look for include:

- square gas block
- 1949 on the receiver cover (duh!)
- squared, not angled, front sling mount
- arctic birch stock with only one serial number stamped into it, matching the receiver serial number
- looped rear cover latch lever
- non-chrome-lined bore.
- no refurb stampe such as a square or diamond stamp with a vertical or diagonal line through it.
- no black paint anywhere.
- spring-loaded firing pin
- different bolt and carrier lock-up design
- cruciform bayonet and stock inletted wider to accomodate, not narrow like on a blade bayo stock

There are probably other differences that are slipping my mind at present.

Unless you have approval from ATF in writing (3-6 month waiting). Hard to get but possible.

Wrong Sergei, Russian SKS and SVT-40 and also Chinese SKS are banned from Importation into the USA.

Sergei: Do you have an approximate delivery timeframe? Would help with budget planning - so many guns to pay for over the next few months!!

I think the reason they banned Chinese/Russian import to the USA was to pump up their own manufacturers there, could be wrong. Since we don't make our own and have no trading problems with China/Russia all is well. I say bring all the 49's here to Canada then go and post on the sks survivor board. Let em drool. ;)

Count your blessings to have a man like Sergey go and cherry pick these guns for us!
