Horse or Quad or Jeep. Witch would u want ?

"You guys ever think what the horse will do when you fire a Gun off his back??? JITC "

Yep, Your horse says AYE?? instead of Neigh when you talk to him.:D

The rider that tries this learns a lesson he can learn no other way.

I have heard that the Indians would stand their horses in water and shoot off them to lessen the rough reaction. I have been shooting around mine since they were all very young but not off them yet.

I use a jeep, but for the most part it stays on or near the road while i hunt on foot. If my kill is vehicle accessible then I bring it in close to load up, other wise I drag out to the nearest access.

Owning several horses, a quad and 2 4X4's I just can't avoid this thread.
I think it would vary with the terrain, but out here on Vancouver Island I would take the horse any day.You just can't get any vehicle in where my horse will go. They are accustomed to gunfire as we shoot around the yard quite a bit, but I wouldn't try it in the saddle. Dismount and shoot, fine, but not on his back.
As mentioned by someone else, they'll let you know long before you that there's something out there.

I have horses, a prowler, and my truck is 4x4, but that said, horse is my #1 choice when going out to hunt for a couple reasons. First it is very true that a horse you can take damn near anywhere, but that is not the only determinate. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing the destruction left by a$$holes and their 4-wheelers, I have seen the destruction of too many creeks, rivers and streams to have any want for that ####. I acknowledge there are responsible guys out there with quads and 4x4 vehicles, but not enough to really influence what most of the vehicles out there do.

It's great you managed to get your animal and drag it out with your quad, but thanks guy, you just destroyed the habitat which was the reason your animal was here for in the first place. I have no problem with people using quads and 4x4's responsibly, but please keep them on the trails, and if you do get an animal off the beaten track at least TRY to get it to one of those said trails.

The worst thing is these people are generally proud of themselves.

a well trained horse is capable of pulling a game animal out of some tough spots but i have seen a horse get bogged down in swampy ground were a quad could go . i would give the nod to the horse if the terrain was suitable but you have to know how to handle them . they are not for novices and the learning curve takes a long time eliminating most people unless they are supervised by someone with experience .a single work horse can pull a stuck car out of deep snow like it was a toy as i have done that with my fathers work mare in my younger years and could easily out-pull any quad .

Thrashing the #### out of said swamp in the process. Wonder why we see trails closed and vehicle restrictions.

I don't know about elsewhere, but on crown land it is an offence to take a vehicle off a designated road to create your own trail. The only problem is there's never anyone around to catch the idiots.
Another reason to take the horse!
