Talley Lightweights

The Talley's are an integrated ring/base. They're great if you want light weight and you don't plan on removing the scope.

The Leupold PRW would be more like the Talley steel fixed, in that you have a base which needs to be attached to the receiver and the ring which needs to be attached to the base. Then the scope needs to be set in the rings.

On the Talley lightweights, you only have 2 attachment points. Base/rings to receiver and then scope into rings.

IMO, whichever way you go, Talley makes a superior product in either set-up.

Clay(aka "SakoAlberta") at Prophet River can help you with Talleys. He's a site sponsor and superb to deal with.

I have several talley lightwieghts. They are the only aluminum scope mount I would consider. I like the integral ring/base combo, less room for error. Regular talley rings and bases are also superb but a touch high IMHO.

The only thing I like to use. Reasonably priced...last ones cost me $52.00 at my door and compare this to bases and rings of the same quality...they would be at least the same or more:)

Just ordered a set from Clay at Prophet River. Pumped to try them out. Did everyone here who has them, lap them? Is it really that big of a deal? I can't see how removing such a small amount of material could be so crucial...

I have Talley Lightweights on my Stevens. They are, in my opinion, the best scope mounts available. I'd use them again on any rifle.

The only word of caution is that the Stevens/Savage has a longish action and some scopes won't fit properly. I was going to mount a buddy's 3-9x Leupold Rifleman in Weaver rings on his Stevens ('06 like mine) and the scope wouldn't fit. In a panic I even measured to see if my Talleys would work (it was an anniversary present from his wife) but the power ring to objective bell measurement was too short on the scope. My Stevens wears a Burris 3-9x Signature and it fits with 3/8" of fore/aft adjustment for eye relief. I think it has one of the longer scope tubes on the market. Definately worth trying/researching before you buy.
