Normally Les is out in the woods by himself with little to no survival equipment, but I caught the tail end of an episode where he's hunting in Ontario with a bow and rifle.

Did anyone else catch this episode? Any thoughts?

Hahahahaha

He went out with what looked to be a Ted Nugent Wanabe..........

It was supposed to simulate "getting lost while hunting" He had an ATV that "broke down" at the start of the show.

He could have chosen a better partner for this episode, like maybe a female hunter, or a teen.

I only saw about the last 5mins of the episode too and was wondering if it was any good.....I am pretty sure his hunting partner was carrying BOTH a bow and a rifle with him.

Yeah I watched the episode. Pretty good episode. They went a long time before seeing a grouse, but thats the way it goes. I keep an extra set of batteries in my first aid kit in case my gps dies, but I also have/use a compass. I guess Les didn't have these items on purpose.

The search and rescuers did an amazing job.

EDIT: I think they had a bow, a break action 410 and a 12 gauge semi auto.

It was a good episode. As much as most hunters think they are an experienced, hard core backwoodsman, many hunters aren't and can get lost quite easily when they go "just 100m" from the truck or quad trail. And lots of guys aren't in good enough shape to walk half a day out of the woods anyway. Getting lost or hurt is a lot easier than most people admit.

It was indeed a good episode, based on a situation that I would guess happens every year all around the country during hunting season. That being said, it's pretty obvious that the whole thing was two buddies that found some suckers in the form of a TV network to pay for their annual hunting trip.

The entire thing made me laugh. It also looked as if it was the first time hunting for both of them, and they spent the entire hour complaining about things (as usual).

I dont mind survivor man but it just seems like all he does is starve. Bear Grylls or whatever his name is.... at least hunts and kills his food. Les just eats grass and other plants. Les gets all weapy and teary eyed when he has to kill even a snail.

I agree Les is a bit soft on the killing issue. And Bear Grylis is the kind of fella who gets on with it without a moments hesitation, and I can appreciate that.
But Les's atittude IMHO, really reflects the average non-hunting, city dwelling Canadian pretty much spot on. (obviously Les has a very good survivalist skill-set)
I think both of these survival programs speak to two different 'stereotypes' Les, maybe the hiking/boating non-hunter, more apt to be stranded due to a boat sinking or a plane crash. And Bear Grylis probably appeals to perhaps a younger generation, more committed to outdoor 'extreme sports.'

IE-Parachuting, powder skiiing, etc.

my two bits......

That from a man who probably watches Bear Grylls:D, unfortunately its the only show in town, so it makes it the best one. Wish there were better/more of these types of shows.

Dude, Bear ####s guys like Les.

Les' show is getting sadder all the time... poor bugger. My favourite was in the 'scary' North American countryside with nothing but two horses, a ton of gear and the surrounding ELECTRIC fence to keep him safe. He got mighty scard that one of the horses might kill him. Sad.

Oh, how "Un-western" of him! I guess even if one lives in a rural log cabin, does not mean he is horse savy. Wow.....

I like watching the show for entertainment. Unfortunately it teaches very bad practices. Hmm leave the quad that was in the open and the S&R found right away and tramp into the woods when you don't know where you are going and the helicopter can't spot you.

I think Les does a reasonable job about demonstrating shelter in the wilderness, but his real shortcoming is that he seems to know virtually nothing about hunting or fishing or trapping. Bear on the other hand seems to take absolutely stupid chances of getting stuck in a tunnel or slipping on a cliff and so forth, no to mention some questionable foods that on occasion have made him sick. I sort of wonder how many of the dead animals that he finds have been purposely left for him. There was freshly dead camel in the desert for example that seemed highly suspicious.

cheers mooncoon
