Marlin 1895 GS Stainless lever for $629.99 at a retailer- good?

I am hoping that this lady just doesn't know what she is talking about...

This is usually the case at Cabela's Canada. I find most people at Cabela's don't know what they're talking about except for a few older guys behind the gun counter. They might not be getting more Marlin 1895 GS rifles at the sale price but the gun is not discontinued.

Well I got home today where there was a message waiting for me from the lady I talked to earlier from Cabelas. Aperantly she was wrong on the discontinued status of the gun. She informed me that there is a shipment arriving and that they will be filling all the back orders.

He was just teasing you! :)

Didn't mean to tease...

Here she is...:D

Pretty sweet rifle for ~$700 all in.

My only complaint is that there is no set screw for the offset hammer spur that was just rolling around in the bottom of the box. Should be able to get one from Fastenal...

Now, where can I find a XS Ghost Ring Sight for it...

The thread size is 4-40. I'd get a large machine screw so you can really crank it down.

Little set screws come loose unless you use weak threadlock and carve a slight notch in the hammer with a file to keep it snug. Nothing worse than the hammer spur coming off while decocking or some other inopportune time. Trust me - I've broken my nose on the scope...

You can order the Ghost ring sight from Brownalls. There are a number of choices i.e do you want it with the Lever rail and a Ghost ring sight or just a Ghost ring sight. I ordered the lever rail and then the corresponding Ghost ring sight that goes with the lever rail. The only issue is you have to place to separate orders, one for the lever rail and then the second one for the Ghost ring sight because of the $100 US limit on ordering gun parts from the States, which means two postage charges of $20 plus two $5 Canadian customs handling charge plus the duty etc. The delivery takes two to three weeks because of the border.

glad that Cabela's is making an effort to fill the orders!

i'm getting more and more annoyed with myself that i never bought myself one.

oh well, need and want are two different things, and i really didn't (and don't need one).

I agree need and want are two different things....but for me want seems to come before need most of the time. :) I didn't realy need this rifle and I don't need it now but I sure wanted it and want it now so hopfuly they will arrive soon.

Thanks for the tips fellas!

I guess I'll have to go with Brownells for sights if there's nothing north of the border... mind you the factory sights aren't too shabby to begin with. I just think the Ghost Ring would give me a little quicker sight.

Very nice! Congrats.

I paid $599 for mine from SIR/Cabellas 2 years ago. It was a really go deal then aswell. Had to wait about 3 months for it to come off back order though. it was worth the wait.
