Coyotes got my neighbour's dog

What kind of idiot ties their dog outside? If your dog isn't proper company to have in the house, you shouldn't have a dog! I have a 110 lb German Shepherd that is an in house dog, he is like family.

"Thank Christ it was just a dog that got attacked and not somebody's children."

My dog is my family! My kids are grown and now it is just me, my good wife and my German Shepherd! I'd defend either one to the end! They would do the same for me! That is what family is all about!!!

Some people have hounds and beagles for hunting dogs, not family pets. Most never see the kitchen floor...In fact I know very few people that have beagles as house pets... I know guys that have 8 or 10 beagles, and they don't come in the house...

Not sayin its right, just the way it is...

What!?!? I have one beagle snoring to my left on the sofa, one sleeping on her sheep skin on the pet futon and I assume the old one is at the foot of the bed with the wife. Yes, they are spoiled. Having said that, they spend most of the weekday 7 am-6pm, outside in a 6 foot high chain linked run, including the winter.

When I was younger in S Ont I use to have walker hounds for hunting coons and deer they stayed outside all the time, chained up. Can't have hunting dogs running free harrassing wildlife. As they got older they were often allowed to run free as they would only hunt when told to. They only came in the house after a long day of hunting to sleep beside the wood stove. They usually wanted outside before we were ready to kick them out.

We have wolves, coyotes, fishers, bears and lynx around my place, all of which could take one of my dogs and which is why the run is made with 4x4 lumber and 6 feet tall. My trio of beagles usually know when a critter is in the area. They generally make it well known something is out there and they don't venture too far.

PS I would never chain out a dog outside in my area here in Northern Ontario as I am sure the wolves would make short work of any size dog.

No....we have an idiot problem.

Their dog is outside howling and barking....an no one bothers to check on it until morning.

MORONS. Its sad their dog had to pay for their stupidity

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

im guessing you have never been around a beagle before? some of them will howl and bark for what seems like no reason at all. ive seen it time and time again where beagles will just go non stop. they love to bark and howl because there are bred for hunting and i believe its referred to as "baying"?

some areas are just beginning to see coyotes so i wouldnt be surprised if quite a few people living in the sticks arent aware of the threat. unfortunately, these people had to learn the hard way. but, stating that this was cruelty to animals is ridiculous. yotes could outrun a beagle so it wouldnt have mattered if the dog was tied up or not.

if the beagle wasnt tied up it would have been wandering around and likely would have got killed much sooner than it did....

When your dog is baying, perhaps you should go see what its baying at? And I find it hard to believe someone in that area isnt aware of coyotes.

When our hounds started barking excessivley, we went and looked.

I don't agree that all dogs should be let inside. But if they are left outside don't tie them up.

I have friends with 5 doberman pinschers, beautiful dogs. They never come inside though, they have a heated dog house, a big one too, and have free roam. Good dogs too, they will come close to the driveway to see who is there, but won't won't go on the driveway.
Lots of coyotes in the area, but they have never seen one on their land. I'm pretty sure the dogs kill coyotes all the time though.

I have known of several dogs that have been killed because they were tied up, its sad.

But to compare animal cruelty to child molestation.... come on people. If someone was cruel to my dog I would be pissed but let the law handle it poorly, but if someone hurt my child.... they would have the slowest most painful death possible and they would never find the body, ever. Just makes my blood boil at the thought. I wouldn't think twice about the possibility of jail for my child, but for my pet, not a chance.

hounds have to be tied or in a enclosure. Most are just tied. If you got up everytime your hounds started barking, you would not get much sleep. All my hounds have a dog house to get into so a coyote would have a tough time with them.

I'll bet your negihbours are university educated Liberals. Only they and the NDP would be dumb enough to use live dogs to feed the 'yotes.

Engrave the pet's name on the .223 ammo (and when you take the shot, say in a muted tone " this one's for Lucy ").....:sniper:

Sorry about the loss, tho....:(....my neighbours had a pet dog and my house was a second home to her....:yingyang:

Funny, none of ours kept us awake all night with barking.

Quess you have laid back hounds, or not many varmints around. You get used to it. If something was chewing on my dog I might hear it. If it is a alarm type bark, I might investigate. More concerned with two legged varmints than coyotes. They are relatively scarce around here.

shoot at them enough and they will piss off, for a little while anyways, they come in and pace around my dogs run, I saw massive amounts of tracks in the winter, lucky for my dog I have 5 ft horse fence, and god help any yotes that gets in.

after Ive shot at them they move on for a few weeks but they seem determined to make my dog a meal
