For the past while I've slowly been gathering the components necessary to build my first true custom rifle.

I'll be adding to this thread as time goes on and the rifle starts coming into shape.

It will be a 260AI with a Stiller Tac-30 action, Krieger 28" 5R heavy varmint on a JAE 700 stock.

I just got my barrel last week from Ian (obtunded) and I got my action off of the EE here rather than waiting forever. It is still NIB though.

Since my intended smith, Guntech, doesn't have reamers on hand I wanted to get fresh ones so I could have a sharp new set so I got my own from Pacific Tool and Die as well as a gauge.

I also started getting reloading components as well. I just got my die set with some bullets and .243 brass from Rick.

Rick I gotta say man, you must have some secret agreement with Canada Post or something because every time I order from you it seems to get to my door in 1 or 2 days.

I'm really looking forward to this. Jerry (mysticplayer) is supplying the scope, trigger and rings. The scope is a 8-32x56 sightron and we all know the delay on those.

no biggie because the stock isn't supposed to get here till next month anyway.

Actually, there are only 4 of you. One owner bought multiple barrels. Nobody has anything built yet, so the title of the first Canadian Krieger 5R rifle is up for grabs!

Crossing my fingers for you!!.....I played with a JAE (again) at the Calgary show, sadly as usual it was the M1a version. Fantastic stocks. I look forward to seeing your pics when she's all done

Sounds like a killer build to me! I've always been a fan of the JAE stocks. Just wish we could get our hands on 'em! Bonus for you though as the longer they are delayed, the higher our dollar gets which in turn means lower cost to you. :)
Can't wait to see pics of the finished product!!!!

For those wondering, I just got this email today from Lisa over at JAE. Sounds like it might be a bit later

Hi Clayton,

The JAE-700 stocks are not in production yet. We are still making the fixtures for the machined parts. As soon as they go into production, Wolverines order is in the first batch. Danielle will contact you once these stocks are starting production just to finalize your order in case you want to add anything once you see the final product and accessories.

Sorry I don’t have a better timeframe for you yet, but we’re working hard to finish as soon as possible. There have been many improvements to the picture you see on the website. You won’t be disappointed.

Thank you,

Lisa

You certainly have the components for a fine build, I bet it shoots better than you expect. I'm looking forward to seeing the progression, congrats.

Well things are really coming along.

If you missed the thread by Guntech. I got my barreled action back and installed the trigger then today I painted it black to match the action.

Well I spent the day painting the barrel to match the action

I used Duracoat Ultra Flat Tactical Black.

When I had the Dennis fit the bbl to the action I also had him sandblast the barrel which made painting that much easier.

I taped up the action and used an earplug to protect the muzzle. They work really well as they expand around the bore keeping it away from the rifling

I started by cleaning the barrel with the tru-strip stuff, pretty much the same as brake clean but made to ensure no residue.

then I used their new Duraphos stuff which is supposed to act as a sort of base for the material. You spray it on continuously for 5-7 minutes keeping it wet, then rinse it with water for about a minute to get rid of the extra stuff.

I left that for a while to dry off and caught a nice fish off the dock lol

Then I came back and did the actual painting. This black is alot more flat than the black I used on my previous build so I decided not to go with the matte clear I had standing by. I'll find a use for that eventually I guess.

Oh and if anyone is looking for news on the JAE stocks. I have been told just last week that they will be delayed AGAIN until the fall.

:runaway::runaway::runaway::runaway: A beautiful Stainless barrel blackened beyond recognition....oh the humanity....:runaway::runaway::runaway:

Looks like you may have to find another stock to put it in until the JAE arrives so you can post us a range report.

What did you use to plug the barrel? Looks like a round push pin.

Still waiting for Mick to put my 7mm 5R together....I knew I should have brought beer when I showed up....:redface:

Looks good!
I'm thinking about doing the same to mine.

I'm pretty sure that is my clients house right across from you....Small world!
