Crazy Mountain Lion hunt

Actually quite a few cougars do get taken home for the meat. It can be pretty good - very veal-like. So, those two really don't know what they are talking about.

Cougars aren't nice little pussy cats. They are killers. Ask the professor at the University of Alberta whose daughter was killed by one.

The area that I frequented in Alberta saw its deer herd levels crash, cattle go missing, sheep killed, and dogs taken off porches - all because cougars moved into the area.

I bet those two have never had cougar tracks over their tracks shortly after they made those tracks. I wonder if they would have been stalked by them or if their grandmother was - might those two have a different opinion?

Now shooting .44 mags in an old mine - that's is crazy. I'd have used an 870 riot gun filled with 00 buckshot.

Looks like some guys here need to try a nice heaping bowl of cougar stew! I carried a tag all winter waiting to run across a cat to put in the freezer. They are tasty.

And yah, those guys in the video need some shooting lessons...

Saw this one coming...

When cut and dried there's little difference between cougars and deer as far as hunting. Thing that got me about that video was that they ran the thing for a good long time, cornered it, shot it repeatedly, put themselves in a bad position, had it escape, shot at it some more, and finally had it die by falling off a cliff... that's sloppy hunting to me. If they tracked the cat, shot it then took it home and ate it, I'd be fine. I'm not a sport hunter so far, but I don't object to it as long as proper care is taken to be respectful of the animal. These guys were being irresponsible in my opinion. There's a difference.

This is the same mentality that PETA tries to use to get ALL hunting banned.

While you may not agree with it...it is legal...no matter how beautiful you think they are.

So if you can't be supportive of their right to hunt, please refrain from commenting.

Because once they ban one type of hunting...yours may be next.

I Kill for meat and when I do it I do it right.
I Will NEVER be supportive for that kind of useless Butchery Kills. This is not how Ive learned to hunt and this do not respect animals and nature. That kind of Hunt and behavior is bad for all hunters.
In 2010 hunters are a minority and footage like this will do no good to the Sport.

Do you have a problem with coyote hunters, or gophers, etc?? This is no different than an African safari. Just because it doesnt fall into your relm of "meat hunting" doesnt mean that it is not hunting. When us hunters start dividing ourselves into smaller subsections, we only hurt the sport we love.

PS I still love how one person speeks out against something, then the "followers" chime in and express their disgust...lol...like little internet posers...lol

I dont Agree, if you kill only for Killing for no reason it's no hunting.
Varmint control is another thing If there is a Problem. If there aint a problem in you area, there is no reason to hunt.
Same goes Coyote, If there is a problem.

Killing a Coyote or a gopher 300km from any sign of civilization for no reason or use is not hunting.

As long as you use your kill for "something" I consider you hunter. When you Kill for a Stuffed Souvenir you are no longer a hunter in my book.

Some Humans are considered Varmint in some parts too
FAIL for meat they waisted alot of it by shooting many time at the poor thing.
This is not how you hunt for meat and this is not the best Game for meat too.
Use common Sense when hunting pls

Hunting like life can get messy....Sh1t happens and then you deal with it...Just the way it is.

Guys like you need to learn that there is more than one way to hunt and more than one type of animal to kill.
Cougar meat is fantastic.

Nut up or join the antis.

I don't think you fully appreciate the concept of "divide and conquer"...after all, there is NO need for you to kill that deer/moose for meat when you can buy it at Loeb's.

Poor little things...just let them live. :kickInTheNuts:

They hold a legal tag issued by the Gov't...just like you. END of story. :)

Something like this does not but turn the anti-crowd against hunters. Also, a perfect example of why a pistol in the wrong hands is not the best choice for hunting.

That mentality is exactly what is wrong with the hunting community in Canada. There are trophy hunters, and there are meat hunters. The meat hunters think that trophy hunting is unethical, and voice it strongly. So instead of it being Anti's vs Hunters, it is Anti's and meat hunters vs trophy hunters and vice versa. We are all hunters...I really dont care what your definition of hunting is, as long as regs are being followed, you are a hunter. I may not agree or participate in certain practices, but that does not mean that I voice my displeasure on a public forum to fuel the fire.

Ok yes those guys should have shot better and killed the cougar with a single shot.

But who here can honestly say that they could shoot straight with nothing but a revolver with a 180 pound cougar cornered WITH YOU INSIDE A MINE SHAFT! You would be nervous no matter who you are and anyone who says they wouldn't is down right lying.

On top of that every shot would make your ears ring, the lighting inside that cave was minimal at best, etc.

Now outside the cave is another matter when they have the cat cornered on the mountain. The guy who shot it was a first timer so some slack can be given to "buck fever" in my books. I know my first hunting trip I was shaking so much lining up on that deer I missed twice.

Now for me I wouldn't have carried just revolvers and I dont think I would have followed it into the cave without artillery support :D

But you have to admit, the bragging factor of chasing a 180 pound cougar into a cave and killing it with a handgun is a little on the highness factor....

not very sporting at all.

What would be more sporting? Going in after it with a knife? :D

sport·ing
Function: adjective
1 a : of, relating to, used, or suitable for sport; especially : trained for trapping or retrieving game <sporting dogs> b : marked by or calling for sportsmanship c : involving such risk as a sports contender may expect to take or encounter <a sporting chance>

Id say going inside a mine shaft with a 180lbs cougar is pretty sporting :p

That cougar could have easily jumped one of those guys inside the mine shaft, hell it ran right past three guys to get back outside

They were going to shoot that cat with a bow but the bowhunter that was being guided by these guys was too scared to go into the cave lol. They were miles away from their quads so they had to use the .44's, he said he wanted to use a shotgun but didn't want to risk loosing the cat leaving it and going to get the shotgun.

these guys treed multiple cats that day but passed on them because they were too small, they only take large tom cats which is good for the lion population.

with this kind of mentalty, any animals could be classified as varmint...ugh?? lions are predators, they are basicaly king of the wild outdoor, if they are to close of farms attacking their stocks, then it's another story....wich is not the case here.

hunting for the sole purpose of showing a trophy just doesn't fit my hunter mind.that's it!! hunting to me is either for getting ridd of some varmints causing mayhem in your property, or getting food to eat.

those who are running after species threatened of extinction...well, my respect goes to these poor animals who should not be hunted, not the numerous idiots who are parts of the reason as why some species are treatened of extinction.

and i'm not of the chinese mentalty where every living species on earth walking on 4 paws with the belly facing the ground should be eated ,but tortured before the kill...

All legal hunting is hunting. Illegal hunting is poaching. There are lots of hunting styles I don't bother with (archery, driving endless miles of backroads , hunting over bait, using a guide) but they are all hunting and I will support the rights of all hunters. Our hunting heritage must be promoted and protected not undermined from within.
I wouldn't have gone into the cave after that cat though. I would have either declared it a draw or waited for him to come out.

no need to fuel the antis with this kind of hunt.

antis argumentation fall-off when the question is hunting for food or getting ridd of some varmints ,but this kind of kill put fuel in their tank no wonder.

it's easy to explain to someone who may think his meat land in his plate by magic.

hunting moose, deer, bears, rabbits, wild turkeys make sens , everyone has to eat in order to stay alive.

at the opposite, lion hunt, elephants, tigers,...hunting them for what??? trophy??? beeew, sorry but THIS kind of useless hunting for the sole purpose of getting a trophy is just bringing more fuel to their already pale argumentation when the discussion stay inside the hunt/food criteria.

there's many talibans who would make a way much respectable trophy in my opinion, and them too arent eatable..

Here,i corrected your post for you to be more accurate.Yes they eat lions and elephants in africa.

Ps. If you read the text with the film they skinned out the cat and boned out the meat.

bbouhahaha...nice!mmhaha, it made me think about the antis/pros who each have their own version of the same picture, wich at the end revolves around the right of every living organism to exist.....and the absolute need of food to stay alive lolol.
