SKS point of impact

This infromation is correct if using non-surplus ammo and if you are shooting in yards. Although most Canada's shoot in meter's & use surplus ammo witch is gives you a different POI. Although it was a great read;)
Sorry, I don't know where you are shooting, but I have belonged to 4 gun clubs with ranges in Canada in the last 20 years. Each and every one of them has a minimum 100 YARD range, and some are longer but all were in YARDS. Currently, the range I am using is a 400 YARD range. No one I have ever read posting on here posts the range for kills in metres, they have all been posted in YARDS. No hunter within my personal knowledge calculates distance in metres, all of their range finders are set to yards, even the bow hunters. Also I have chronied "surplus" rounds and have gotten fairly consistent 2770fps - 2790 fps. So the info provided was fairly on the money and we are only talking eighths of inches here. Not even a consideration when discussing the accuracy of an SKS. And if you really want to get technical, the sights are graduated in metric, which the Soviet world adopted in 1924. The standard unit of measure then was the "ARSHIN" which equaled 28 English inches. I have a Moisin Nagant graduated in those, I guess I'd better not shoot that on ANY Canadian range. Thanks for the advice.

OK what about this idea. I set the rifle to shoot poa/poi at 25yrd bull but with the rear sight on the 200 yard setting. I figurd that the 25 yrd zero would be close to dead on at 200yrd and high at 100 yrds. I didn't check to see if dropping the rear sight to the 100yrd setting would be good for 100yrds. I did this last time at the range but I don't know if it would be consistant through the rear sight settings. Cheers

The sights are metric. If you want to use the adjustable sights, metric would be advisable.
A 25 yard zero is nothing like a 200 yard zero on an SKS, you can't make it up, look up the table and get the answer.
You can go to http://www.gunsim.com/save.html?name=Lapua%20Hunting%20%207.62x39mm%20Russian&rang=300.0&bc=0.28&velo=2300.0&grou=2.0&zero=100.0&wind=10.0&tars=0.0&temp=59.0&pres=29.92&drag=0&bulw=155.0&alti=0.0&humi=0.0&sigh=1.2&uphi=0.0&tarw=10.0&tarh=10.0&yard=false&tab=2
And change yards to meters, set range step to 25. Sights set for 100m, zero at 25m using the drop on the table.

A 25m zero should be very close to a 100m zero. Different ammo will vary, naturally.

WoW!
Thouched a nerve hey.
I guess I better tell Poco, Mission and also Silverdale that they should change from meter's to yard's. Also I should try time warping back to tell the Russains to change there sighting system from meter's to yard's just to please you.
Naaaa!
I'll just stick to the metric system that this rifles stock sight's were designed for.

That's what I started this for.
At 25m/yd at what height above my aiming point do I have the bullet impact so I'm hitting what I'm looking at at 100m/yd.
And does that work if I switch to the battle sight.

I don't require any country or range to change their standard of measure to suit me, I'll adapt to it. Not so much as touched a nerve, but I guess I should have questioned what you believe "most" Canadians actually is in a percentage. I understand that there may be many ranges out there that are graduated in metres. But I am just as willing to bet there are just as many still using yards as well as most hunters. Blanket statements not backed by information or evidence are just so much ethereal BS. Thank you for playing, though.

K say it's zero'd @ 25 meter's on position 1 then at the top of the ear's on a sight picture below will be preaty much bang on for 100 meter's.

Although you could set it to the U setting and it should be good to go @ 100 meter's if the postion number 1 was zero'd @ 25.

It's kind of hard for me to explain but I wish I could show you.

The "U" setting on the SKS rear site is the battle setting for 300 meters.

IIRC the rifles (front sight) were tested at 25 meters to have a point of impact at 100 at the 100 setting. I know the topic has come up a few times. Good vid on sighting BTW.

You are absolutly right. But if you get a 25 meter zero on setting 1 then try putting it on the U mark ;)
This x39 round has a really odd bullet ark.

Noob question here: So if you're shooting (with iron sights) at targets very close, say 40, 50, and 60 yards, would you leave the rear sight set to the Battle Setting? Or bump it up to the 100m setting?

Me personaly,
If it's multiple target, say 0 to 200 meter's, I would use the battle setting's. As the rule would be to either have the shots land directly over the front post or under neath it. Also you will notice that different ammo will shift the POI.
