At the advise of X-Fan and another fellow I made up some new 200gr Accubond/Retumbo reloads to try in my 26" factory barreled Rem 700 LSS in 300RUM and was able to get to the club yesterday to give them a try.

This is basically a stock rifle that I glass bedded and adjusted the trigger on.

When I got to the 94gr Retumbo loads my new Shooting Chrony gave me an average of 3198fps and my 3 shot 100 yard group hit into a tiny cloverleaf, 200 yards was ok but not great but 300 yards produced a 3 shot group of 1.122" X 1.090" measured by target shooter Dan P from CGNTZ that was at the club as well...

I only loaded 9 of this load and shot 3 shots at each distance.

I'm happy... :D

Sweet! I load 180 Accubonds in the same rifle as yours. I bedded the action and then free floated the barrel channel. Awesome performer. Thanks for the pics but now I gotta try the 200's!

I have 100 new sized and primed brass that I have been saving until I found the right load guess I better get at it...

I'm totally not into the point blank range crap I normally like a 200 yard zero but I'm going to do it a bit different with this rifle/load combo I'm going to try a 235 yard zero this time if my calculator is correct I should be...

1.7" high @ 100 yards = 5000 ft lbs energy
2" high @ 150 yards = 3860 ft lbs energy
3.5" low @ 300 yards = 3250ft lbs energy
7.5" low @ 350 yards = 3100 ft lbs energy
14" low @ 400 yards = 2900fp lbs energy
28" low @ 500 yards = 2600 ft lbs energy

I get to aim dead on out too 325 yards which is only 5" low and I have a VX3 4.5-14X40mm B&C reticle scope on this rifle so when I get the chance I'll figure out the range for the B&C reticle lines....

Nice work on the 300 yard group!
You must be very happy that level of accuracy.
Dial your zero and go hunting. :)

I rigged up a buddy with a similar setup and he has been very happy with both the accuracy of the setup and the effect on the moose.
Since then he's shot moose at 450, 375, 270, and 200 yards (seismic line hunter) with pretty much the same setup as yours.

One thing that I had my buddy do was fine tune his load with a ladder test at 350 yards (300 would work just as well in your case case).
Its one thing to shoot a sweet group at distance, but its quite another to repeat the process on demand!
Try a ladder test in 0.3 grain increments.

Sounds like a keeper Camp!

To late I already loaded up 80 of the 94gr rounds last night... :)

All I'm going to do now is sight it in.

I'm hoping to leave with my 3 year old son and 7 month old puppy and head up to Quesnel/Prince George to do a little prospecting/hunting/fishing/camping this weekend my plan was to be away for a couple weeks but I just remembered it's Mother's Day on May 9 and my wifes birthday is May 13 so I have to be back sooner than I wanted.

No you were asking to buy my original 375RUM that I put into the safe when I modified my new one but don't ask about that one either I sold it to a buddy a month ago now for $1000.00 that has been pushing me for it for about a year now...

tried mine yesterday at 500 yard, prone on bi-pod using the 3rd circle on my bdc reticle.
i use only 92 gr. retumbo cause they group in .75" instead of 1.5" with 94 gr.
it's enough recoil as it is anyway. LOL. make a diference with 200 grainer.

Coldmaker,

Nice work.
Your group is about MOA left/right, but over 2MOA in vertical?
What are you using to support the but end of the stock?
If I had to guess I'd suggest you have a rear bag problem?

Have you tried the load at long range?

Can I expect similar results with the 180, or should I get a box of 200's for mine too?

I shoot the 180 Accubonds in my factory LSS. 3 shot groups average about 0.6" and I load Reloader25. I use this one load to hunt everything. But I may try some 200 Accubonds for fun.

Anyone here want to trade some 180's for 200's? You can try the 180's and I get to try the 200's and neither of us has to buy a full box of bullets!

group is 1moa high and 1/2 moa wide it was shot at 500 Yard
on the bipod, so no rear bag at all. I shoot on a table with bags
at 100 yards only, to develop a load.
and no i haven't try longer range yet. Just before this group
i shot one at 400 that is 3.2" so .8 moa.

300rum+200accubond+retumbo=dead critters LOL

Excellent shooting,
Never tried Retumbo, will consider for future, but have good result with AA3100/86gr with Accubonds. Groups of three at 100m under 1/2 inch

Ahhh....1/2" squares! :D
Makes the 500 yard target look much better!

FWIW I carry a little bag with me to stabilize the rear...I think they call it a dog bone.

Here is a link to show you something similar.

Just came back from Quesnel area last night, yesterday morning I had the chance to do some real world shooting @ 510 yards at an 8" rock on the side of a logging road bank with my 300RUM/200gr Accubond/94grs Retumbo loads.

I was shooting off of a box that I have strapped onto the back rack of my quad and was not using a rest... :D

I had never fired this combo at this distance before so had no idea what would happen first shot there was very little wind bullet impacted 12" low about an hour later was back at the same spot but it was now breezy wind maybe 10 mph tops did not adjust for wind-age just elevation shot hit 16" to the right and 2 inches low.

Recovered only one of the bullets it had penetrated appr 8" into the fairly hard sand/shale bank it was fully expanded haven't had a chance to weigh it yet it is still out in the camper.

:canadaFlag:

Finally got around to weighing the 200gr Accubond the distance was 510 yards muzzle velocity was 3200fps & impact velocity was appr 2400fps.

The bank I shot into was soft sand/small shale and the recovered bullet weighed only 113.5grs...

What would you recommend as a starting load for the 300 Win Mag with 210gr Sierra target VLDs and Retumbo? Hodgdon doesn't list that weight, but it says for 220gr, minimum load is 76grs and max is 81grs - I'm going to use the 220gr loads to play it safe, unless anyone has the powder loads for the 300 Win using that specific Sierra bullet.

I can see it appears to be a very consistent powder, as from what I can tell the vertical grouping is small. I think it should produce good velocities for long range. Good shooting!
