Okay, Problem 1: Ejector spring bracket edge is not flush with the barrel. It extended outward too much to the point that when the extractor would pull the shell out, it would catch on the ejector bracket edge. FIX: File that edge down! It worked...

Problem 2: Inside of the chamber was too roughly finished. After I fired a high brass Federal slug, the chamber gripped onto the shell too tight to let go. I had to wait for the gun to cool before I could slam it open. I had a friend take a flap sander bit to the inside to smooth it out. The shotgun performs wonderfully now!

My reference to the paint wear. I'll probably end up polishing it. I'll post some photos if I go through with it.

A little skeet shooting told me that there's an issue with this Fab Defense PR-870 fore grip. With the recoil, my thumb jammed into the picatiny rail on the left side... I'll be removing that rail obviously. Flashlight will be placed on the right side. The only downside to that is I will not be able to actuate the flashlight toggle with my thumb.

The fore grip held up great through about 200 shells. I would recommend it to a friend.

The ghost ring sights worked awesome for skeet shooting. Super fast and easy to find the skeet as soon as I'd shoulder the gun.

Nice rig. I just picked one up at the Kamloops gun show. For all the right reasons: Cheap and looks BADDASS! (and i needed a camp gun/fun maker). I took it out for the first time today and put 100 rounds through it with a buddy. I to also experience this 'feeding issue'. It did get better as the session went on though. It didn't like being pumped hard and fast (that's what she said) but worked fine at a slightly slower rate. Im gonna tinker with it an see what i can figure out. Other than that its fricken AWESOME! I was expecting the recoil to be a lot less enjoyable with that little folding stock, but its not bad at all. We shot some clays and it certainly doesn't make a nice cheek piece though.

I do like the idea of mounting a light on it too. I'll be watching to see what you come up with. Infront of the tube would be ideal for sure, with a switch on the grip. hmmm....

I am definitely leaning towards the mounting you suggested.

I am envious you got to shoot yours. The weather here is retarded. If it isn't raining, it's snowing. Just a couple more days, and I am going to shoot the hell out of this thing.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that.

I already polished mine. I figured that a small amount of smoothing in advance might help me avoid issues.

I won't polish the bolt. I prefer a darker look on an HD or tactical shotgun. If enough of the gun gets too shiny from use, I will just resurface the whole damn thing in Armacoat. I think I have enough left for half a dozen shotguns.

Something I learned when shooting my first IPSC match with mine, on the folding stock has an edge above the pistol grip which after 40 or 50 mixed rounds knocked a chunk of my knuckle on my thumb.

Took me a while to figure out how I did it, then it got a bit of duct tape for the rest of the match.

The weather finally cleared enough to head out and do some shooting. I promised to take my wife out and help her sight in her first rifle, so I figured I might as well bring the Grizzly along.

I didn't have enough tome to shoot a lot of different types. I blew off some cheap, Walmart Winchester first to see if it would jam. It did jam on feeding for some reason. I then said screw it, and shot a bunch of Gameboro Buffalo 00 buck. This stuff fed beautifully. Not one jam or problem at all. Patterns were huge at 25 yards (12 - 14 inches). I'll have to buy different brands of buckshot and see which patterns best for me. I have to admit that I am damn happy the Knoxx Specops I ordered yesterday is coming soon. That tiny little Grizzly buttstock lets you really feel it after enough buckshot. I decided on holding off on the slugs until another day (big pussy?). I should also add that racking this shotgun was a pleasure. It didn't require a lot of smoothing before I took it out. It pumped great. Smooth and solid. I am guessing that after a littel more use, it will be fantastic. It was a real pleasure to use. The ghost ring sights are nice too. I love using them.

Can't wait to buy a variety of shells and go out again with a bunch of cardboard.

It seems my post might have been a little harsh.....for that I am sorry!

.

Harsh???

Damn I guess what I was going to post would be considered BRUTAL

As an RO I was almost crying watching competitors actually have to FIGHT with their guns to get them to work.

Mind you it might have been an ammo problem if everyone was shooting the same ammo.

I do like the look of your shotgun, of that there is no doubt. And I do like the idea of a detachable mag for a shotgun.......LOVE IT.....:dancingbanana:

I am not sure where the problem originated with the ones that I have witnessed in action.....but for all of them to have problems, seems a little suspect to me. Much like the widely known 870 Super Magnums affinity for jamming on cheap Winchester shells.

I hope "they", "someone" can resolve the issue, so I can buy one and do some fun shooting with it.

:D

These guns are by no means hand made & fitted Purdeys, Greeners or Holland & Hollands.........ain't no doubt about that.

With cheap junker guns from no-name Chinese factories the quality of each gun is a toss of the dice.......a faint hope wrapped in a prayer.;)

Some of the short barreled shotties I've seen looked like they were built by a gorilla in a blacksmiths apron pizzed off cause God made him ugly & he needed a piece of steel to take it out on.

Having said that, I have pumped at least 500 bird shot, 000 buck & slugs through my DA Grizzly & have never had a single jam.........the guns action is smooth & my Grizzly is more accurate with rifled slugs than anything in my shotgun safe.

I must have got the pick of the litter cause I've heard from guys who weren't so lucky.

It's pot luck when you buy junker guns & we all knew it or ought to have known it when we bought them.

Mine also jammed initially. 20-30 rounds later, no longer an issue.

My contribution to this thread is a reccommendation to break the sharp edges in the ejection port opening. I've sliced my fingers a few times while sticking my finger in there to lower the mag plate enuf to close the chamber. A light filing with a fine file is all that's needed, followed by a Sharpie marker to cover the now-bare metal.

The bloody hold-open feature's the next thing to go on mine.

EDIT: Almost forgot! For anyone depending on this firearm for protection, check the piece of metal welded to your mag(s) which keeps the mag locked into place in the receiver. The one I use the most simply fell off. That one is being silver-soldered as I type this, and the two spares are also being soldered for reinforcement.

Wel I have just ordered mine tonight guys to join the club. What stock sets fit this gun as well?? I am looking for a non collapsable AR style adjustable. I ordered the extra mags as well as you really con never have to many mags can you???

You'll need a stock adaptor. It looks like the 870 ones fit, and Badboybeeson makes one as well. His comes with a top rail.

Well after checking into it with badboy and a couple of "nutters" on here that have first hand knowledge the gun is a knock off of an 870 and the stocks swap no extra parts needed. Just have the keep the bolt and spacer from the pistol grip. Well I will be finding out when mine shows up and I will do a write up when I do so. Woohoo I am so looking forward to the gun, also contemplating a knarly muzzle break for it to finish off the look, and it will be getting a knox spec ops recoil reducing stock.

Post pics when you get the Knoxx installed.

Believe it or not, I actually shoot trap with my folder. Mostly due to the fact that my 28" barreled 870 being repaired, but watching me shooting trap with an 18 inch folder mag-fed must be hilarious...:p

I'm in the process of receiving a 18.5" with the fixed stock. I'm excited, less so when they tell me there was a two day delay because they forgot to call me to ask my place of birth.... Always gotta be something..

I think to pass the time I will buy some shotgun shells and play with them like dominos.

Will review when I get her home.

New Pics

I finally got the Knoxx Specops stock in,. I was happy to see they included the forend grip. Putting the buttstock on is super easy. I thought I'd have an issue with the bolt perhaps having the wrong threads, but it fit nice and tight. The forend was a hassle. Damn it was way too tight. After a little sanding and filing I finally got the grip on too. I have to say that I actually like the new forend. Here's how the Grizzly looks now:

Grizzly_SpecOps.JPG

I like the new look. All I need now is to find a decent light system on a budget. I guess I also have to find a new home for the spare parts left over. I doubt I'll have any need for the old folding stock and forend.

Schick,

Did you not have any trouble getting the stock to fit? I am finding that the bolt on mine is very tight (18" mag fed grizz). I see a few others have fitted knoxx stocks to grizzlys and was wondering if the bolt needs to be changed. Mine seams to bind before fully tightened and the stock 'wobbles'.

I thought once i recalled a post which says to change the bolt (or nut)? but search is not turning it up now.

Ahh, found the thread,

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=457374&highlight=knoxx+grizzly

Looks like I am unlucky and got a grizzly with fine tolerances, so the imperial thread on the knoxx is too tight for the metric thread on the Grizz. Maybe I can shim it with a sling mount.

I was worried about the bolt as well, but gently trying it resulted in it going in great. I even removed the stock and screwed it in again. It is super tight and the stock is snug, with less than a hairs gap. To be honest I couldn't even remove the Knoxx screw from the stock.
I can also recall someone mentioning a possible screw issue, but since there is literally piles of Grizzly posts, I couldn't find the thread again.

I hope I didn't screw things up by using the Knoxx supplied screw.

As I mentioned earlier, I had far more trouble with the forend grip.
