The only pathogens that live pretty long on dry surfaces are those that form spores, like anthrax and aspergilllus type molds.
Would be interesting though, to do a forensic analysis on some of those SKS'.
Using simple fluorescence based test, we could see if there's any traces of blood.

and cars probably leaders in number of fatalities by far. yet, they are not banned...just because politicians can't win on this idea, while it's very easy to scare general non gun owners public by evil guns and get voters on their side.
