You should probably just use a cartridge that you can handle, and save your ears.
Good advice. If you need a brake on your hunting rifle (20lb LR rigs and .50's are a different application), my thoughts are step down to a cal you can manage. But hey, giv'er if you are so inclined. Just don't tell people to kiss your ass because they can handle a caliber you can't without a brake.
That's not the reason they can kiss my ass. Shooters that preach freedom to carry/shoot/own whatever they want, should stop discriminating against people that CHOOSE to use a muzzle brake. I've shot much bigger rounds without a problem. I CHOOSE to use brakes because I enjoy extended time at the bench. All of you have to start supporting brake users instead of trying to make them feel inferior because they use them. Get it?
What if a parapalegic wants to be allowed to hunt from a truck or quad? Should they be allowed to so they to can enjoy what you take for granted? Therby adding to our numbers of gun owners, shooters, hunters, outdoorsmen. Think for a minute about what I'm saying. Anytime a Gunnut mentions "muzzle brake" the flamethrowers get revved up full blast. It's getting a little old around here. I for one, welcome any shooter regardless of the equipment they choose to use. Either we are a fraternity of shooters or we are a bunch of clicky groups huddled amongst each other only brought together because of oppressive government regulations. I choose the first one.

Bulls**t. You specifically said in one of your posts that you don't give a rat-ass that your braked rifles bother the other shooters at the range. Something like they can just move down the range...![]()
it's not about making anyone inferior, it's about telling them that brakes are obnoxious and largely unnecessary on a hunting rifle. Better to use a cartridge that you can handle without a brake than deafen you and your hunting partners.

So when my stack of pennies gets big enough for my wife and I to hunt Africa I should face down that Cape Buffalo with a 30-06 because the act of putting a muzzle brake on my 375 Ruger is "obnoxious"?
Man, I really wanted that 375 Ruger too.![]()
The King should not be defiled by such a weenie device.
This King should be free
Long live the King!

Aren't you guys squawking about two different things? Muzzle brakes at the range and muzzle brakes on hunting rifles?
I still stand by that. My gun is too loud at the gun range for you? Go away Fud....
Cartridge you can handle. Hmm there's a statement and a half. "Handle" means exactly what? So when my stack of pennies gets big enough for my wife and I to hunt Africa I should face down that Cape Buffalo with a 30-06 because the act of putting a muzzle brake on my 375 Ruger is "obnoxious"? Well if you guys are right I wont be going to Africa. I guess I'll empty that account and buy a Bass boat.
As far as defening my partners goes I'm 100% aware at all times where my muzzle is. I've passed up shots over the years because I knew where my muzzle blast was going. And I've had partners shoot unbraked rifles that had their muzzles close and just behind my earline and suffered tinitus for a couple of days at a time. So I fail to see what makes a brake a bad thing if the user is conscious of having one and uses it accordingly.

joe I leave mine on permanently. Why mess with barrel harmonics when you've burned up countless hours developing the right load?
Lots of cape buffalo have been killed with 30-06's...
But if a guy can handle a 30-06 without a brake, I don't see why he couldn't learn to shot a .375, too.
You spend countless hours developing a hunting load?
I doubt removing the brake would make your countless hour developed load into a completely ineffective hunting load, anyway.![]()
