You should probably just use a cartridge that you can handle, and save your ears.

Good advice. If you need a brake on your hunting rifle (20lb LR rigs and .50's are a different application), my thoughts are step down to a cal you can manage. But hey, giv'er if you are so inclined. Just don't tell people to kiss your ass because they can handle a caliber you can't without a brake.

That's not the reason they can kiss my ass. Shooters that preach freedom to carry/shoot/own whatever they want, should stop discriminating against people that CHOOSE to use a muzzle brake. I've shot much bigger rounds without a problem. I CHOOSE to use brakes because I enjoy extended time at the bench. All of you have to start supporting brake users instead of trying to make them feel inferior because they use them. Get it?

What if a parapalegic wants to be allowed to hunt from a truck or quad? Should they be allowed to so they to can enjoy what you take for granted? Therby adding to our numbers of gun owners, shooters, hunters, outdoorsmen. Think for a minute about what I'm saying. Anytime a Gunnut mentions "muzzle brake" the flamethrowers get revved up full blast. It's getting a little old around here. I for one, welcome any shooter regardless of the equipment they choose to use. Either we are a fraternity of shooters or we are a bunch of clicky groups huddled amongst each other only brought together because of oppressive government regulations. I choose the first one.

Bull####. You specifically said in one of your posts that you don't give a rat-ass that your braked rifles bother the other shooters at the range. Something like they can just move down the range...

it's not about making anyone inferior, it's about telling them that brakes are obnoxious and largely unnecessary on a hunting rifle. Better to use a cartridge that you can handle without a brake than deafen you and your hunting partners.

Bulls**t. You specifically said in one of your posts that you don't give a rat-ass that your braked rifles bother the other shooters at the range. Something like they can just move down the range...

I still stand by that. My gun is too loud at the gun range for you? Go away Fud....

Cartridge you can handle. Hmm there's a statement and a half. "Handle" means exactly what? So when my stack of pennies gets big enough for my wife and I to hunt Africa I should face down that Cape Buffalo with a 30-06 because the act of putting a muzzle brake on my 375 Ruger is "obnoxious"? Well if you guys are right I wont be going to Africa. I guess I'll empty that account and buy a Bass boat.

As far as defening my partners goes I'm 100% aware at all times where my muzzle is. I've passed up shots over the years because I knew where my muzzle blast was going. And I've had partners shoot unbraked rifles that had their muzzles close and just behind my earline and suffered tinitus for a couple of days at a time. So I fail to see what makes a brake a bad thing if the user is conscious of having one and uses it accordingly.

Man, I really wanted that 375 Ruger too.:(

You bolded in your quote of me: I for one, welcome any shooter regardless of the equipment they choose to use.

And that is 100% correct. "I" do. "You" muzzle brake haters don't. An the fact that "you" haters feel the need to be anti-brake lets me be "pro-brake" and yes, my deriere can be kissed anytime you like.

So how do you guys feel about this rifle:
SAV10AS-13.jpg

A muzzle braked rifle only chambered in "pussy" rounds of .223REM and .308WIN. I have the left handed .308. It's a factory setup. So please tell me it bothers you at the range. You can guess my response.

The King should not be defiled by such a weenie device.

This King should be free

Long live the King!

Weenie, implying another shooter that's inferior to yourself. Nice.

Definition:
n.
1.Informal. A wiener.
2.Slang. A person, especially a man, who is regarded as being weak and ineffectual.

Next macho man to make my point?

Aren't you guys squawking about two different things? Muzzle brakes at the range and muzzle brakes on hunting rifles?

Lots of cape buffalo have been killed with 30-06's...

But if a guy can handle a 30-06 without a brake, I don't see why he couldn't learn to shot a .375, too.

joe I leave mine on permanently. Why mess with barrel harmonics when you've burned up countless hours developing the right load?

You spend countless hours developing a hunting load? :runaway:

I doubt removing the brake would make your countless hour developed load into a completely ineffective hunting load, anyway.:p

I don't see why I have to. Free country and all that.....

I'm 6'0" 220lbs. Plenty strong and have worked with my hands my entire life. But when it comes to rifles with recoil beyond a 300 Win Mag I CHOOSE to use a muzzle brake. The purchase of the brake keeps someone employed, the installation makes someone else some money to. But in the end this awesome thread has become the "I hate brakes" thread. What is so hard for some members here to get through their thick skulls that a braked firearm is still a firearm. And the simple existance of another firearm is one more anti-Liberal symbol. What do you guys do when the Black Rifle crowd shows up shooting rifles with flash suppressors that are almost as loud as brakes and some M14's for exampl have replaced the suppressors with actual brakes? Snub them too?

I can't believe you guys here are sticking to your ideas about hating brakes. I must've read you characters way wrong from reading your posts over that last number of months. Some people just have closed minds I guess. I know if I had a closed mind regarding 375's I'd have never considered anything but an H&H because it's history preceeds it wherever it goes. But my mind is always open to new things so eventually I will get a LH 375 Ruger with a brake on it. That way you will recognize me out in the field.

Yup. I work up the most accurate load I can using the chosen bullet for the game I'm after. Um, oh yeah, they call it a hobby.:p

Someone else here exempted the 50BMG from anti-brake yapping. Why? If the shooter can't handle the recoil they should use a lesser cartridge and use proper bullet placement. Sound familiar?
