Okay, we've all seen it at one time or another, especially around the neck and shoulder junction of often-times fired cases.

It stays on there, even after several hours in a tumbler. I have always used superfine steel wool and light oil to remove it. Anyone know of an easier way?

Tried putting a liquid polish in with the walnut? Cleans mine to a perfect shine.

Nu-Finish Car Polish works well as does Aluminum Mag Polish which is a bit more aggressive. Put in a couple of table spoons to a full tumbler of media 10mins before adding the brass.

I'm with the "adding polish" to the media. I add 1 Tsp roughly of some stuff that is made for corn cob media. Best results I've see yet. But I'm sure lots of stuff works the same. Plain tumbler media that's untreated can only do so much.

I don't tumble brass ..just use a bit of "gun conditioner" (preferably a non-toxic type) on a bit of Kleenex. If you clean within 12 hours of shooting, it seems to come off reasonably well. If I want to keep my brass looking shiny, I use Brasso every 5th firing. I don't know if it is "fact" ...but some suggest that tumbling brass will cause work hardening ? Also, my theory is that brass perform well if it is clean.... shiny brass does not shoot any better than clean brass.

A little Hoppe's #9 on a rag takes care of the carbon build-up in short order. I just give each case neck a quick wipe before I throw it in the tumbler.

This is the stuff I'm using now. First time I tried it and I got it at P&D. Works the best I've seen yet too!

This is where ultrasonic cleaners come into their own as they do a great job of cleaning this kind of material off brass.

and the even better part is that they can clean inside the casings just as well as the outside.

But that is if you have one..

Otherwise I just give the necks a good rub with hoppes powder solvent usually.

Has anyone tried the new ultrasonic cleaner being marketed by Hornady? Has anyone actually seen the Hornady unit for sale in Canada?

Check Ebay, you can get the EXACT same cleaner as the Hornady only without paying for them to rebrand it with their logo.

Thats what I do, except I use a Lee shell holder in a drill, and spin it while cleaning it with the fine steel wool. Gets a bit hot on the fingers, but cleans well, and quick.

I do the same thing exept I use Brasso on a rag.Kwick spin after with
a clean rag.SHINY brass,better than new.

I do the same as heavyBullet and Winchester 1886. I use the Lee shell holder in my battery drill, trim length with the Lee tool, chamfer in and out, then spin in some extra fine steel wool along the whole length. I haven't used my tumbler yet this year, as the above works so smoothly for me.

Happy shooting,
IBD
