Building a rifle around bullets?

A friend and I were bantering back and forth today laughing about silly things that start a rifle build. What about a particular box of bullets? I have 80% of a box of 180 grain .308 Hornady Interlocks that I bought from the late George Hoffman before he died of cancer. I have wanted a 30-06 to shoot them from and I thought I would take them hunting for something that George might have enjoyed chasing. Maybe a Bighorn Ram, perhaps a Moose, a Whitetail, or a bull Elk?

What do you think. Should I work on that? It seems a noble reason to put together a rifle. Doesn't it?

sounds like a good reason.....I have lefty stainless/laminate Ruger 30-06 here that belongs to my southpaw oldest son....maybe he'll lend it to you..

I've bought rifles and even built rifles when just a set of dies happened to cross my path.....a 416 Taylor build comes to mind......course I've done it backwards too.....might need a set of 7x64 dies.....

I have had a box of Nosler 6.5 120gr solid base bullets sitting on the drawer for 20 years. Sometimes it takes quite a while to find the perfect vision of rifle. Oh well such are the probelms of a rifle nut.

nah,...like the ING guy says..."save your money"...I'll lend you my 45-70 Guide Gun and about 40 350 Hornadys at about 1900fps for a couple weeks,..that feed your flinch....

He's right. You best stock up on ten more boxes of those bullets and then go ahead.

Building a rifle around the brass makes more sense.
1)Buy Lapua brass
2)Seat one of your free bullets
3)Send your dummy cartridge in to the reamer maker of your choice.
4)Built rifle
5)Send 3 or 4 fired cases in for a custom FL sizing die.
6)Enjoy

I've built rifles to use a specific bullet (6mm Mach IV with 85 gr Barnes X comes to mind), but not yet because I have some spare bullets laying around. Still, it's as good a reason as any, I think. - dan

I think I'll buy a box of .257 110 gr noslers then I can build a 250 sav ai to shoot them.

I have a set of 458 Win Mag dies, and a 338 win mag that I am bored of at this time. Might be a reason to rebarrel it.

I sold my 8mm Rem Mag to BroncoMudder, finally found some 250gr Woodleighs, and bought the rifle back!
