I finally had time to get my XCR-L 6.8 SPC 1-11" twist conversion kit installed and made it to the range this morning.

I was very pleasantly surprised with the results that I got.

110gr Sierra Prohunters + 29gr H322 + Win LR primers + COL 2.240" = 2649fps average velocity = 1 1/2" 100 yard groups and definitely minute of deer/bear chest @ 200 yards.

(just called the Sierra Bulletsmith's they told me that this bullet is not designed to expand much below 2300fps which limits me to appr 125 yards max range)

There where no feeding/reliability issues of any kind I'm thinking that this isn't bad for the first trip to the range with this rifle/cartridge/load combo.

I saved the targets so will post pics of them when I get a chance...

Thanks for all this! Nice to see 6.8 SPC being offered in FMJ and hunting rounds. 6-7 months ago that was different story. WSSports in Calgary was selling 6.8 for $50 a box before Xmas!! Can't wait to get the range with my XCR conversion kit! Tx Camp Cook for starting this thread!

Yes I am using Rem LR primer brass basically it is the only brass available.

If you barrel is a 1-10" twist I would probably settle on 28grs H322 and if it is the newer 1-11" twist barrel I would be using 29grs due to the lesser pressures that are generated by the slower twist.

I would seat the bullet to fit the mag which could be as long as 2.290".

Excellent Thanks!;)

I have Rem LRP and Hornady SRP brass, the Hornady brass wall thickness measures about .002" thicker then Rem.

I tried to load up some Hornady Vmax 110gr W/O cannelure in Rem brass, I scrapped the idea when I found the bullets would slip in the brass! Maybe I'm missing something?

Are you meaning that the bullets are pulling back out of the case a bit when you lower the seated bullet out of your press/die?

If that is what is happening you need to contact the manufacturer of your die and get a correct seater they will probably ask for you to send in a bullet.

Also are you using a crimp the folks at 68forum.com are all saying that they are using Lee factory crimp dies after they seat the bullet lowering the bullet in the press turning it 1/4 or 1/2 turn to give a consistant crimp resulting in better accuracy.

I have my 6.8spc & a 223 Lee factory crimp die ordered should be here hopefully by the end of next week I ordered directly from Lee due to also asking for a custom factory crimp die for my 375RUM and they are also sending me a replacement factory crimp die for my 45-70.

I am using a set of RCBS dies as I did not see any 6.8 listings at Lee at the time.

My bullets were getting pulled back out of the cases,I ended up putting a small radius at the mouth of the seater, that solved that problem.

I have got into a habit of tapping the odd reload to make sure they are tight so as to avoid set back , glad I did with Rem brass and Hornady 110 Vmax's.

So it looks like I need to order a Lee FCD too.

I'm using RCBS dies and had that issue as well until I pulled out my Dremel and spun out the seater die and Lee dies most likely would have done the same thing.

Most definitely order the FCD it will solve the crimp/neck tightness issue.

Lee told me that due to the FCD having 4 slots in the crimp that after running the bullet into the FCD once to turn the bullet slightly and run it thru the die again to give the neck the best crimp.

I think I'll go this way over the way that the 68forum guys recommend.

What I have noticed about my 6.8 C-Products mags are, yes 5 rounds fit perfectly but when I try to seat a loaded mag on a closed bolt it fits so tight that I can hardly lock it into place or pull the bolt/charging handle back.

I just pulled one of the mags apart looks like I can snip/cut 1 - 2 spring coils off that should give it enough room to fit properly with a closed bolt but still only allow 5 rounds.

edit to add...

Just snipped off 1 coil it now works perfectly...
