slide not locking back after last round

I had my Sig X5 Tactical at the range this weekend for the first time in a year. In the past, I shot only 115gr Winchester whitebox stuff. This weekend, I was shooting American Eagle 147gr (with the truncated cone shaped bullets).

Most of the time, the side didn't lock back after the last round. I tried 4 different mags, and observed the same problem with all of them.

Could it be the ammo?

I didn't have anything else on hand to do a comparison. But, I must say, if ever I've had probs with 9mm ammo in the past, it is always the 147 grain stuff (especially in 1911s and other guns with tight tolerances). BTW, I was also shooting my HK P30, and it ate this ammo just fine that day.

I'd say your thumb was touching the slide release lever. it's pretty easy to do with a SIG and I've seen it happen as well as I've done it myself. Well placed controls can get in the way sometimes.

I suspect it's the 147gn ammo. In doing some testing for my reloading I used some 147gn bullets. I found they were quite soft in recoil for the same IPSC power factor as the 124's. So it's quite possible that the rounds you're using don't quite have the recoil energy needed to drive the slide back far enough to engage the slide lock notch. The fact that it's doing this with all four magazines and only with 147 ammo would suggest that this is the reason. Another clue is how far the casings are ejected compared to the more snappy 124's and 115's. If they are just dribbling out of the ejection port compared to the lighter bullet loads then you have the answer.

If you'll be shooting this 147 ammo consistently instead of jumping around from one brand and bullet weight to the next then the right fix would be to install a slightly weaker recoil spring.

Bang off a mag full with your left hand! I have never had that issue with my Sigs being a lefty because it's impossible to touch the slide release.
