Colt 1911 dovetail..What goes here??

You say that 2 renowned gunsmiths can't fix it, then you say that it will cost 3X what it's worth to fix......strange.

Obviously there was a sight on there at some point.

What's so special about this slide that someone would make a custom one off rear sight and cut?

What kind of slide is it anyway's?

How much did you pay for it?

Is the buyer refusing to refund your money?

So many questions......

You seem to want to "do it your self" so why not get an adjustable sight that is close to the right size and then shim it tight or glue it with an industrial steel epoxy....

Good luck buddy.

Seller might give refund we will see

Its a colt commerical slide 1914.. polished blued... steel is blued then machined

payed 225 ...

It would have to be a 0.525 rear sight thats a huge dovetail 25 cents over a half inch. To fix it would have to be filled in and a new dovetail cut not a big deal .But then has to be re blued...Bye bye polished blue ... I love the look of the polished blue with my frame its silver not chrome more like a pewter silver with the polished blue its a softer color then the deep black the two tone looks awsome in my eye

If you put a shim underneath the sight it would force it up in the dovetail and reduce the dimension... you need to reduce it by about .6 mm.
Maybe the shim would be to thick it's hard to say but if you really like the slide it would only cost you about $50 to try a .500 rear sight in there.
In your pictures the slide looks parkerized I would have never guessed high polish blueing.
Good luck with the refund if that's what you decide but maybe buddy will give you some cash back and you can put that towards the "project"
Try putting some basic shim ( alluminum can) in there and see how much you need to build it up to get to .500

The top is parkerized look at the side view... the side of the slide is a deep purple color

He said he will refund so I hope it goes well..
I would not be so crabby if I could get it fixed for a decent price but also the front fixed was changed to a super high one that I would have to file it down to fit a tall rear sight...I dont think its worth it to have to spend a ton of money to have it fixed when I can buy a brand new 1911 slide for 200 with no wear on it and correct sights

I am new to the colt .45 and I found this out with just a few hours of looking online. I found out that it was not a factory dovetail or a factory front sight

It's not Colt commercial slide mfg 1914 if that's what you are saying. It has a "P" proof forward of the rear site dovetail indicating that it is a WWII era USGI slide. If the slide script is visible and they are Colt script markings then it's a WWII era Colt USGI slide.

stamped on left side it says ...patented apr.20.1897.sept.9.1902 the horse colt`s pt.f.f.a.mfg.co. next line dec.19.1905.feb.14.1911.aug.19.1913 hartford.ct.usa

Yes, typical Colt slide proofs for the WWII era. Rampant Colt pony centered between the patent script and Colt maker roll marks. And the "P" proof stamped on the top of the slide forward of the rear site dovetail. All consistent to a WWII era Colt military USGI 1911A1 slide.... ;)
