Art Lupino just posted one on M14TFL, followed by a few others. In short, good receiver, in-spec, better than many original M14. Finish is on the rough side, many tooling marks.

I hadn't seen that review - got a link? I know there have been scattered bad reports on firing pins and extractor from early 762mmfirearms' production runs - Im hoping the get real good at what they do though as they at least will ship to Canada.

yup, i had the opportunity to guage a handfull of thier firing pins from production run dating back several months. Nice chrome finish, length wise they all passed the Milspec guage but a couple were longer and right at the max for what would be pin protrusion at the bolt face. Also one or 2 felt very spear like and kinda pointy . All in all though they were nice to see hehehe

Great review. Too bad about the machine marks they left on the outside. That could easily have been blended by using a heavier grit for blasting (still not ideal though). Basically what happened there, in all liklihood, is they are running their mill at too many linear feet per minute and the cutter either got dull or had chip buildup on one of the cutting surfaces.

To me this says that on non-critical surfaces, they are pushing their machines a little too hard to try and crank out receivers for what is probably a large backorder.

Lets hope surface finish improves with time.

So far though, the review seems to point to decent work on the critical finish areas.

I spoke with Chris Thomas, owner of 7.62mm Firearms, yesterday about this. He reiterated what he told me at the 2010 SHOT Show. The surface finish machining marks on the 7.62mm Firearms M14 receiver are intentionally made that way to duplicate the appearance of TRW M14 receivers.
 
With respect, just because he says that makes me wonder if they are finding a reason to justify the marks, or the marks are there on purpose. If I was looking to save money on a production receiver, I would come up with similar ad copy to that too.

That being said, the machine marks don't bother me at all. If I was in the states and able to purchase one of their receivers, I would. For the price, the product seems great from what I have seen.

The only two (minor) complaints I would have are:

1) They did not follow the drawing for the lower scope mount spline and used a ground end mill to cut it rather than a horizontal mill cutter, this results in the groove being terminated shorter in appearance than on USGI production. There is some talk about whether the ARMS mount would fit or not.

2) I'm not a fan of how US makers are marking the side of the op rod shelf on the receiver. Is this an ATF requirement? Looks ugly IMHO. I would have thought the heel markings would satisfy manufacturer marking requirements - no?
 
According to my last contact with 762mmfirearms my bolt is slated to ship this week! It was ordered in 3/17/2010. Nearly 3 months to the day. Claven2, did you receive your part?
 
I've gotten a few parts from them One gas cylinder had some inclusions in the bore - they are sending me a replacement - waiting for it to re-arrive. I also have a bolt on order - they are supposed to ship the 15th.
 
As an update, I did receive the replacement gas cylinder and it's AMAZING. This company knows how to make a gas system - period. The cylinder is nice and TRW-like blacked, gauges perfectly, beautifully broached and machined. Their TiNi coated piston is simply awesome. At least as good as the SEI ones.
 
I ordered a bolt March 17th 2010 and I still have no bolt from 762mmfirearms.com as of August 9th 2010. I was offered on two occasions the implication that my bolt would ship "within the week." I am not impressed. I've waited nearly 5 months.
 
Screw up on the parking process. Trust me you wouldn't want them to look like that. The back order's should be getting shipped out any day now & we will be seeing them in the mail in a few weeks.
 
Yep. Looked like crap and it was sent back.
Now they look preaty nice & Chris is sending me some more that I will be taking pic's of and getting the doc to mic it all to make sure that it's all up to spec. Hopefully with in the next two weeks there back order will be cleared up according to them & I will be getting some of there new run's. The only negitive feed back is the lack of tracking number's that they provide to us Canadian's as it is sent via non-trackable parcel post & labeled as machine part's for comercial sample's.
 
Nice to see they are finally shipping. I'm betting they've lost my order by now though... lol. Bright side is I was only buying one to test it in a rifle. I have anough real GI bolts for my rifles ;)

i have bought and used two of their gas systems now though and they are top drawer IMHO.
 
I just read the whole thread, it was fascinating as a m14 ultra noob. After reading this thread, I am glad the m14 has peeked my interest. A gun for the range, hunting and history.
It is also good to see parts are available from the states.

If someone could post a good site that I could read on the history and use of this rifle I would much appreciate it.
