AICS stocks ...

Hey Rick just taking a stab at it here but do you know if the screws for the McMillan Saddle Type cheekpiece will fit, they appear to be similar however obviously the threads may be dirrerent. There is a picture of a AICS on page 14 of this thread where a guy had painted his stock. It is a Rem action with the thumb screws, so they are available, somewhere.

Yes the threads and pitch are different. We used the thumbscrews from McMillan on the chassis we made as we could not easily source the correct 1s from AI

At the time I got the screws from a guy on another board. They're well made and do a great job.

Any movement with the finger turn type knobs? I would love to get a set of knobs that you can just turn to adjust ... as the allen key bit I don't like ... :( :D

For those with the AICS stocks, how easy is to seat your mag. I just intstalled a 2 stage on my Rem SA, had it out to the range today and always seemed to have a flyer and the mag is extremely hard to seat. You have to use alot of force to get the mag to engage and click in. I thought the mag would be alot easier to seat than this. I will shoot a couple of more times but will likely get it bedded.

Where can one find such knobs? Also, I was thinking the other day that I changed out my BLACK skins to the dark earth ones on my AICS stock ... I think I'm going to paint the black skins this summer in some kind of winter camo pattern ... wonder if I should make'em all white or use a pattern? Opinions?

You can get the finger adjustable knobs from wolverine. I think they are $9 bucks each. I aswell need some.

They are $8.50 a set. I just got them last week. They are a wing nut type screw and are the cat's ass.

The black skins are just plastic ... what type of paint should I use on them? I keep reading about spray cans of krylon? Thanks for the posts on the knobs. :D

I used armacoat for the first job I did, prep is really important. For the second job to come, I'll be using duracoat. Krylon would be easier to use, but from what I've heard, not as durable as armacoat or duracoat.

I have no painting experience and I am limited to what we have here in local stores ... KRYLON it is I believe ... :D

We have these wings screws in stock. They are $8.50 a set. They are made in the UK but are not Accuracy International pieces. They do work well. Wolfgang, our gunsmith, has a set on his personal AE rifle. For more info give him a cll here at the store or send him an email at wolfgang@wolverinesupplies.com.

The stock is an AICS and I selected it for the aluminum sub frame to suit my requirements for the bipod.

The rifle is a Remington 700 with a tactical bolt knob by Tom Maynard.
The Barrel is from Gary Schnieder who makes them for David Tubb and the US army for sniper rifles. It has 7.5 twist polygonal rifling as recomended by Dave Tubbbs. The action was trued up by Dan Dowling

It's chabered in 6x47 tight neck Laupua but I use 6XC brass for the large primers. I use only 115 grain bullets and RL17 or 4350 powder. The small primers in the Lapua brass were no good with slow powder and heavy bullets because of hang fires and wild velocity changes depending on temperature. Its stable with the large primers and 6xc brass.

The scope is 6.5-20 x 50 by Leupold, but I make my own lables for the adjustment turrets that indicate come ups and wind drift.

The trigger in the picture is a Jewell but I changed it since to a CG which I like much better.

The bipod I made myself with spikes on the feet to hold the rifle more steady and the rope is to absorb recoil. It keeps the rifle from jumping after the shot and with a rear bag it's extremley solid when aiming. Its adjustable for cant and the legs can be moved up or down via 1/4-20 screws. The legs pivot freely but with absolulely no free play. The leg pivots are stabilized by teflon O rings which eliminate any play. The bipod is F Class legal.

When I fire this rifle, I accept no recoil to my shoulder as the bipod deals with all of it and I always watch my bullets fly to the target.

Did some shooting today out on the tundra as it was a beautiful day. Here's my Remington 700 in .308 with it's new dark earth skins ... I might paint my scope to match I think. :D
