Mare's leg for hunting ?

I have always thought that stupidity should be it's own reward. Shooting a Mare's Leg like that would be fine, the short stock would be 6-8" farther away from the face and the .44 Mag doesn't recoil like a major centerfire rifle calibre.
I have shot one of the Rossi 16" carbines in .454 Casull, which is much hotter than .44 Mag and it was reasonable. A .44 Mag in the same gun would be a pussycat to shoot. I also own a 5.5" Redhawk, so I do know what full house .44 Mag feels like and I think it would be fine in the Mare's Leg.

The FRT of the Mare's Leg is non-restricted so totally legal in Canadian Woods.
We have mare's legs coming in 44 mag and 45 LC. Non restricted. The price will be far less than $1598.
I wouldn't worry too much about losing teeth. I expect these will be very shootable. And far nicer than the one pictured above too.

We've been waiting on the export permits to be approved for a couple months now. It could be approved anytime. Hopefully in the next couple weeks.

But probably not impossible with practice, just like anything. I know what I can do with "most" of my handguns and I don't see your 100 yard distance being unrealistic with range time and practice.

I can hit a 75 yard 10" gong or pie plate with "most" of my handguns consistently 5-6 out of 6 shots off of a bench(remember, I said most). I don't practice all the time and I don't shoot competitively.
All it takes is time and practice and I am sure the same could be done with the "Mares Leg" and still come home with all of your teeth...
No, you give it a rest. I'm not saying a long shot cannot be made with a handgun. I couldn't do it but I know it can be done. The problem is these weapons were never made to be fired like a handgun. These guns never even really existed. It was a prop for the tv show Wanted: Dead or Alive with Steve McQueen. (Really I did know that, I don't know wht the hell I was on
) The original wasn't even a real gun. Steve's 'rifle' supposedly fired a .45-70 cartridge. (The show eluded to the fact that the .45-70 could never function in his rifle.) And his gun in the show didn't even have any sights on it. It was fired from the hip. These new remakes are made for collectors and what not but they are not made to be fired like a handgun. My only concern is for the OP with the recoil of a full power .44 magnum load in a gun that is designed (straight inline) to recoil rearward may catch him in the face. Remember there is a rear potrusion and a very real metal butt-plate. A handgun is designed to recoil upwards away from your face, a rifle is made to go backward. And the grip usually isn't big enough for one hand to hold let alone trying to get two on there. It may work in a pistol gripped shotgun style hold, but I don't think a handgun hold will give the control needed. If someone wants to buy somthing by all means, just be warned theres a chance it might bite you. Honest I'm not making this up. I sold a guy a pistol gripped Winchester shotgun and it really did come back and get him. He was aimimg it like I told him not to and he really did get it. Like my opinion or not, I'm just concerned about the OP's safety. Take that as you will.

The guy you sold that shotgun to was stupid and that really has nothing to do with someone thinking of buying and shooting a "Mares Leg" reproduction as long as they use some common sense when shooting it.

Mare's leg! What a piece of crap! If he wants something small and light, go with something you can shoulder and get a trapper version of any of the popular lever guns in Winchester or Puma.
It might be fun for experienced trick shooters, but this thing isn't for the average everyday fudd.
