Yeah so Boomer mentioned that Tradex carries Woodleigh bullets. I was particularly interested in 220gr .308 for use in .30-06 and .300H&H.

So I checked it out and have ordered 2 boxes of those. They also sell 405gr FN bullets designed for .45-70 and 300gr RN designed for the .405Win; ordered 2 boxes of each.

I thought the prices were reasonable for all those.

Get any 500 grainers for the Lott? I've bought 470 bullets from them and even at $70 for a box of 50 I don't think that's unreasonable (given how much bullet you're getting). Most common stuff is under $40 for a 50ct box which is pretty damned good.

Can't wait to try them out.

^ Nope. I've got a few boxes of 500gr Hornadys on the shelf. I thought about ordering the .458 500gr Woodleighs.

BUM, would you believe!? I just got off the phone with Tradex. I decided to add a Husqvarna M96 in 9.3x62 to my bullet order. :D

I've wanted one of those 9.3x62's, ever since I read Dangerous Game Rifles by Terry Weiland!!

did you get the one with the norma peep sight?

No peep sight. I prefer plain sights anyway. I will not put a scope on this rifle. It will remain as-is, except maybe the install of a Pachmyr recoil pad.
For what I intend to do with it... eliminate black bears... it doesn't need a scope. All close range work.

I was looking at that exact rifle yesterday! I snooze I looze!

That's a model 649 (on a m/38 action). Seems to be a nice babe. Shot a Moose with mine some years ago (w/ open sights).

Anthony also ordered some Aussie .287" bullets (didn't check yet if he received it) for the Ross and many, many unusual calibers at good competitive prices, such as the VLD bullets. He wants to keep alsmost all the Woodleigh line in stock.

Looking at the tradeex site is addictive...I have three 6.5 x55's and three 9.3x57's now-the last one with a norma peep sight[the reason I bought it]-very nice-and you don't see many of them. But for hunting, they can't be beat

That's a damned fine looking specimen. Looks kinda like mine. Flag safety? 320gr Woodies I presume? I bought my brass from Hirsch but I think TradeEx has some in stock now.

RL15 and 286 ro 320 RNs is your friend!

I got the orange "Medium" Pachmeyr from Brownells for mine. It's a great pad, looks good and performs excellent!

I believe for value those rifles from Tradeex are tough to beat-and if you get a 6.5x55 for deer and a 8x57, 9.3x57,or 9,3x62 for moose/elk/bear you have pretty well covered the bases for anything in NorthAmerica in two rifles[or six!]

I ordered a set of RCBS dies, 286gr Nosler Partitions, 286gr Hornady IL, 286gr Oryx Bonded and Oryx Alaska bullets. I will test all 4 bullets for terminal performance. I suspect any of them will do the job!

Likely the Oryx Bonded and NPs will get the hunting call.

They did not have brass!! :(

I have a backlog of rifles that I need to shoot bears with!!

M-1985 Winchester .405Win, CZ-550 .458Lott, M-700 .35Howe and now this M-96 Husqvarna in 9.3x62!! :runaway:

Bear season is still open another week btw!!! :D

Yeah, it's a sweet lookin' rifle!! Especially at the price I paid!! A FREAKIN BARGAIN... !!! :)

I've been forming my own brass from 30-06 brass, just run it through your dies and load, no fireforming necessary. Works great. Tradex did have real 9.3x62 brass by Prvi for $60 per 100, but they're out right now. Hopefully they get some soon!

I think Corlanes has/had a good supply in if anyone in the NE needs to save shipping. IIRC prices were the same as tradex.

My Tradex M-96 Husqvarna 9.3x62 arrived today, along with various bullets. I see the magazine follower is covered in grease, that appears to go right down into the magazine. I guess the only way to remove that is by removing the action from the stock!?
So is that how all these Husqvarnas end up with chipped or cracked stocks? Cuz guys gotta break the action out of the wood to clean the damn grease out!?

So how do I get the grease out!?

The rifle looks good otherwise. Surprisingly light!

Check out the grease in there!

I don't see any way to release the bottom metal.

A previous owner must have shot 6 moose or something...

93x62006.jpg

Ivory enamel paint on the back of the rear sight... that's gotta go!!

93x62009.jpg

And the bullets I ordered. Easy to read the Woodleigh boxes, the red box on the btm left is 286gr Norma Alaskans and the other is 286gr Norma Oryx Bonded.

you press the tip of a bullet in the hole near the rear of the floorplate, then slide the floorplate to the rear and it drops.

Ouuuuugh .287's!, thats interesting to hear. Have a couple .280 Ross' that need shootin'.

That's the reason why I asked him to get some... I still have quite a bit of Hawk 160 and Buffalo's 156, but I know they won't last forever.

Demonical,

As per cited above, you press the round pin behind the mag at the same time you push (slide) the floorplate in direction of the pin... and should do the trick quite fast.
You should cleant the whole rifle, and especially under the wood line, to make sure there is no surface rust. You also can release the tang by carving a small taper and leaving the outer edge as is, so the removal don't show from the top of the action.
Make sure the action screws are (fairly) tight, 'cos these "cracked tangs" are mostly due to that, loose bolts.
When the action is removed from the stock, and this is good for any Mauser type (box magazines, staggered column, actually) rifle stocks, check out for cracks at the web between the magazine weel, and trigger well. If there is a crack there, then, you will want to get it fixed before firing it. HVA used a brass threaded rod on the late / higher en models to solidify this area.

Wow, I tried to slide that floor plate out and it won't budge! Then I snapped the tip off a screw driver in one of the action screws!

I don't think this thing has been apart in years!!
