Hi

i'm lookin for a little advice... i've owned in the past a couple cooey's, nylon 66, 10/22, remington single shot... and i'm finally lookin at buying a decent out of the box 22.... and not some pos that prints all around a pie plate at 50

what i'd like is something that is accurate without upgrades.. has a decent feel and no flimsy aluminum/plastic or stamped parts

from what i'm reading... so far .. the cz 452 , r55 benchmark, are the two that i come up with .. am i missing some

and of those two... which would be decent...

i'm getting excited... haven't bought something since the goddam registry came in..... its been soooo long..

thanks

I do love my CZ 452 Varmint. Nice to shoot small groups with a .22lr at 100 yards.

I used to say a great accurate cheap 22 was a "Model FIVE" but ever since they discontinued that model line I would have to say a "Winchester Wildcat Target model" it will leave you with enough money left over to buy ammo before it comes close to price with the CZ but is on the same level of accuracy as a Anshutz.

I like the CZ452's, but the other suggestions are good too. Do you want a standard weight barrel or a varmint barrel? The standard weight barrel on the CZ452 American shoots as well as the varmint, so don't be afraid to go standard weight with 452's.

x2 on the wildcat HB, it comes with 4 mags, Last week my personal best was a 5 shot 1/2" group @ 50 yds. Prophet river is selling them for almost half the price of a CZ.......

thanks a bunch

savage mk2, anschutz i'll look into... i thought the anschutz were up there in price...are there any dealers in Canada

also i'd like to stay with models that have been in the market for a couple years.. just to make sure i get a shooter and not fluke out..

Its really hard to keep my mind off getting a 10/22 and upgrading it ... but i'd rather get something with decent wood and shoots dead on from the factory..

i'll have to check out some prices and see

thanks again

Try the model with the thumbhole stock. I own Brno's, but the Savage accu-trigger is hard to beat.

Seems like you got it right the first time. The 452 for bolt action, the R55 for semi-auto. Great choices.

In that price range, I'd look at a Savage MKIIBVTS (or whatever it is they call the bull barreled model with thumbhole laminated stock in stainless)

You'd have to spend a lot more to get better accuracy.

All choices listed are great. It will boil down to 2 questions. Do you want a semi auto? Or a Bolt action.

Having shot some of the choices listed, even being on a budget I saved a bit more and went with the CZ 452 Varmint. Only because I wanted to do some sihlouette shooting, and the CZ had the best balance for my frame size for that.

If you're looking for something that screams old-world workmanship and attention to detail, perhaps consider the Husqvarna .22 single shots TradeEx is selling.

They are an extremely simple little gun, but very accurate and a pleasure to work with - every piece on it looks like it was made for a steam locomotive, and there isn't any aluminum or plastic on it anywhere.

Can't beat the price either - c. $99.00. Worth considering.

I second the Savage. I have the stainless steel target barrel with the thumb hole stock. It is very accurate, even though it is me shooting it. It can also take very serious abuse, that I am too embarrassed to mention to anyone, and it still drives tacks.

its not that i dislike savage... i usta have a 300mag that was quite accurate.. it had bad wood and a cheep clip, very light rifle and would kick like a mule... ..still remember how nicely it shot..... so i'm kinda on the fence about them

still better than the rem's i've owned.. had a 308 varmint with lam stock that would shoot 2 to 3 inch groups off the shelf brand new.. but it looked good... just shot like crap... and it took trigger work and a shilen barrel/hand loads before it would do what it should have done when it was stock... .....don't get me wrong, i love the look of the rems but jeez....not for small game... maybe for some large body animal like a moose... hah

thats just my experience ... i've heard otherwise from some people;)
