I'm looking for a new all around hunting rifle. I've decided on a sako 85 finnlight in .308. Which will cost me about $1699.

However I've just been offered a brand new in the box sako 75 finnlight in 7mm08. It's never left the stores stock room.

He said it's priced at $1699 also but he said come in and make a deal. So should get at least a few hundred off.

So which would you choose? I did want .308 for the cheaper ammo. And better availability. But it's not much more expensive to shoot.

Thanks.

Dealers on the board here can beat that $1699 on the 85 if your not set on the .308. Check out Prophet River, Clay is oustanding to deal with. My last Sako I bought from him was at my door step in less the 24 hrs.
Ive owned both. I sold my 75 Finnlight awhile back and bought an 85 Finnlight. I prefer the American style stock, I like the lighter weight of the rifle. Some say the stock is cheap, usually non Sako owners but I find it strong(no flex), fits awsome and gives me consistant 1/2 inch groups. I fixed the locking mag, thanks to Rembo and am very happy with it. It will shoot the lights out with 165 Accubonds and IMR 4350.
Either one will be awsome and you'll have one of the best factory shooting rifles made.

Cheers!!

shoot factory rounds.. at least for the next little while..
it is clay from prophet river who said $1699 for the 85...
Clay also has a 85 finnlight in 7mm08. Priced at $1649. The .308 would be a special order at $1699.

I own both. The 75 wins, hands down.

If you don't want it, PM me the location...;)

The 75 has attributes I like over the 85, like the area where the bolt handle meets the bolt...the 85 looks like there is something missing,...and the 75 does not have the childproof magazine latch, that is easily fixed on the 85.....the 85 has a slimmer stock design which some like......

if the two were side by side at the same price...I would pick the 75 hands down....

He has or had a Model 85 Finn in 30-06 for $1599 may have sold it.
Have you shouldered both? Both are good rifles, go with the one that fits you best vs. what popular on the interweber.

Cheers!!

i want a short action so its .308 or 7mm08 i need..

ill go and check out this 75 see how it handles..

I've had sevral 75's and now have one 85 and I would actually pay more for the 75 Finnlight. The only thing that ever held back the 75 series in my view was overall weight and the Finnlight didn't have that issue.

85 w/Mcmillan Edge for me wins hands down :)

I contacted McMillan and here is what they told me about the edge stocks

We are not tooled up to offer drop-in stocks for the Sako 85’s at this time. They will not fit properly into our standard Sako stock designs or our Sako 75 stock designs. We have found that we can fit our standard Sako stock designs to them by building up the rear tang area of the stock to match the 85’s rear tang. Also there are also at least three different recoil lug designs and sizes that have been used on these rifles. We must have the customers barreled action and recoil lug sent in to us for fitting to make these custom stock as we do not have a set of in-house barreled actions. Sorry, but we cannot offer these stocks to customers outside the U.S. as we are not set up to import and export rifles into our shop.
Regards, McMillans

You can get them...I have 2 85's sitting in McMillan Edge stocks now...I see a guy has an 85 in the classifieds wearing a McMillan like one of mine for sale(I would buy it myself if I had the cash and change it into a 338-06). Worth the troubles to get IMO, makes the perfect hunting rifle for me. :D I found a couple spare recoil lugs that I sent to McMillan to have them bedded permanently into the stock so I would have the original one still for the factory stock.
