cz 858 bore rust

does the vz not have a chrome lined barrel?
maybe thats why you havnt had rust
i dont know if you read the start of this thread but im not just relying on water and windex to clean
i oil and it rusts
you seem to always have somthing to say
but nothing of value
you need not reply cause i dont give a flying f ck what you have to say
you know it all no nothing

Wow, and people say that I'm a ####... ;)

I would say that on the subject of the VZ 58 in general, and cleaning, maintenance and testing in specific I have a few things to say.. I would bet that I have more rounds down the pipe of this rifle than anyone else in the country. I have probably done more abusive testing on this rifle than anyone else in Canada.

No I don't have a chrome lined barrel, no I don't even have any paint on my rifle to protect it. I have not cleaned my rifle in +5000 rnds. I have used it in the rain, dirt, etc. How come it isn't rusting? Since this is a thread about rusting of VZ's, I think that my previous input here stands as credible. Take my advice and experience for what it's worth. I'm saying that cleaning a rifle doesn't have to be a long drawn out overly complicated experience. If your gun is rusting, you aren't oiling it. If you are cleaning your gun to shoot it, run a dry swab down the bore. If you're cleaning it to store, leave it oiled. Again.. if your gun is rusting... oil it & keep it oiled... Oiled metal will not rust. I'm saying that cleaning a rifle doesn't have to be a long drawn out overly complicated experience.

So my specific reply to you would be .. STFU; since we're trying to be polite. Thanks for coming out though.

Hoppe's #9 wipe with five patches, then apply WIPEOUT wait 15 mins and wipe bore untill patches come clean. Apply light oil and you done.

Save the hot water rubbish for the blackpowder rifles that shoot real black powder.

Absoulteleeeee !

The reason your rifle is rusting is because you are using windex.

WINDEX IS MOSTLY WATER. WATER MAKES RUST.

The one and only time I saw rust on my rifle was immediately after using windex at the range where the windex pooled for a few minutes when i set the rifle down.

DONT USE WINDEX.

Keep it oiled and clean it normally and you will be fine.

WINDEX CAUSES MORE RUST THAN SOAP AND WATER WITHOUT DESSICANT !

DONT USE IT !

USE WHAT SOLDIERS USE !

URINE ! NO RUST ! ;)

What would be your ideal cleaning steps if I didn't want my rifle to look like I shat in it?:) Thanks

ok maybe you cant read good
so i will say it again i oil alot
and people say you are a #### cause you are
stfu to you too what ever that means

My 858 is as good as the day I bought it and all I do is wipe it down well with lots of WD-40 like the owners manual says...... Have any of you actually read your owners manuals? I do strip the gun and wipe everything clean as well but even with lots of corrosive ammo down the pipe and minimal cleaning she still looks like new....

real men dont read manuals lol

Windex then G96. Bore snake the barrel and wipe all parts is what I've used on the various SKS's and VZ's I've owned. Have never had any rust on any of my rifles. The only bit I rust I ever got was when I kyloned the barrel of an old single shot 22 just to see how it would look. Within a week I had rust show through the paint, but I removed all oil and lightly sanded it before I painted.

No Oil = rust and Neit Arms said.

Also, be careful when putting oiling your barrel. If you leave it in there and don't run a patch or bore snake through it before you shoot you may ring the barrel. Accuracy, such as it is with these surplus rifles will suffer.

Alright, everyone play nice or you'll be seperated. I used windex, then brake cleaner, then oil- no rust at all. I'm 20mins from the Pacific ocean. I use boiling water now, just because it evaporates quickly (I help it along with a nozzle and compressor). Check and re-oil every blue moon and your golden. I have seven rifles I shoot corrosive in and have no issues unless I leave water on anything. No biggie, no need to squabble. :)

Ditch your nylon borebrush for a soft brass. After cleaning, wipe the barrel down (inside and out) with bore butter (it'll smell somethin' purtty too). Run a patch before shooting.

I do have VZ's that I don't leave a steamer in. ;)

I use a patch soaked in water and wipe down the gas affected parts, run a wet patch down the barrel. Then repeat the process with Gunzilla and brass brushes. Apply a coat of oil on all parts and then wipe dry (gunzilla is meant to leave dry). I always leave my guns left wet though for storage and prior to shooting wipe it dry, dry swab the bore and go. Store wet, shoot dry. Again, oiled = no rust. If it rusts it's not oiled. Traditional oils can, will and do evaporate, migrate and absorb. So if you're using a traditional product reapplication will be necessary.

Agreed, nylon is next to useless when trying to remove buildup, especially laquer in your chamber. Brass all the way.

This message is hidden because davecasey is on your ignore list.

..Hey look, the system works.

Anybody get their 858's treated by Rauch Tactical? Do you still windex/boil water etc.?

I'm sending mine out, I haven't shot or cleaned my 858 yet, and I was hoping I can just clean and oil it like any of my other guns.

I hardly ever clean mine and I don't have any problems with rust.

Same..

We all know damn well that the CZ manual says "WD-40":), and the tech assures me at wolverine supplies that the WD40 will neutralize the salts, thus why it's mentioned in the manual as the only thing you should clean it with with... however....not following my own advice, I use CLP "break free", rust never gets a chance to even think about building up. Never tried WD40, i'm just used to using CLP and i'm thinking the WD may be kinda thick.. but not sure.

I love cleaning my firearms, it makes me happy to know i can take them all apart and inspect everything... and have it nice and clean when she's re-assembled, not to mention its good to look at the internal parts just for the sake of inspecting them for possible damage, after all... it's your face that's behind it when you pull the trigger.

Another fan of bore butter !

ME TOO !

Been usin it for years on black powder horse pistols -

Put some down the hot bore and wipe it over the dirty pistol -

Put it away -

Take it out a year later -

NO RUST !

If your lazy like me - you can do it to a red rifle also !
