It was finally a nice day today so I decided to install the new scope, (Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 Tactical Mil-Dot) rings, and base (both Leupold Mark 4) and go and sight this rifle in. This Remington 700 Police rifle is almost new, less than 80 shots fired. The only thing I've done to it is adjust the trigger and keep it really clean. This is my first "precision" type rifle.
I picked up a cheap box of Federal Power Shok 150gr .308 and headed to the range.
The scope did not need much adjustment to get it on target at 25yrds...made a couple of adjustments...I fired one at 50...adjusted a little more...fired the next 5 at 100yds...see photo.
First shot was a little high and left...adjust.
Second shot a little low and left...adjust.
The next 3 (that's the 3 above the dime) shots measured 0.465.
The rest of the box of ammo was spent ringing the gongs at 255 and 335 yards...solid hits every time.
I'm quite happy with this rifle so far...I can't wait to cook up some hand loads and start practicing at longer ranges!
I had the range to myself, and a really enjoyable afternoon...and that's what it's all about anyway, isn't it?
