It was finally a nice day today so I decided to install the new scope, (Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 Tactical Mil-Dot) rings, and base (both Leupold Mark 4) and go and sight this rifle in. This Remington 700 Police rifle is almost new, less than 80 shots fired. The only thing I've done to it is adjust the trigger and keep it really clean. This is my first "precision" type rifle.

I picked up a cheap box of Federal Power Shok 150gr .308 and headed to the range.
The scope did not need much adjustment to get it on target at 25yrds...made a couple of adjustments...I fired one at 50...adjusted a little more...fired the next 5 at 100yds...see photo.

First shot was a little high and left...adjust.
Second shot a little low and left...adjust.
The next 3 (that's the 3 above the dime) shots measured 0.465.

The rest of the box of ammo was spent ringing the gongs at 255 and 335 yards...solid hits every time.

I'm quite happy with this rifle so far...I can't wait to cook up some hand loads and start practicing at longer ranges!

I had the range to myself, and a really enjoyable afternoon...and that's what it's all about anyway, isn't it?

Looks good!

Don't think that spending time at 100 is a waste. Perfect your technique, learn how the gun likes to be held and practice follow-through and maintaining a consistent hold. When you can print 10-shot groups like that consistently, then you have her nailed and it is a good time to reach out.

Playing "Chase the zero" when the shooter is the cause only adds frustration and wastes ammo.

Wow i'm impressed by the shots since they are power shoks, those are what im using in my sps tactical .308 i think i have reached .65 at 100 once and was quite happy with that considering its the cheapest ammo i have readily available to me.. good job! and nice rifle, i too enjoy the bushnell, i have the elite 3200 10x40 target mil dot scope.

It is nice to find a rarer detachable magazine model rifle. It is too bad Remington discontinued them - they work perfectly well for the average target shooter and hunter.

Yes, I like the detachable mag model 700s...I'm glad this 700P is one...I also have a 700 BDL in .338 WM with detachable mag...great for hunting!

I don't think you could have picked up a better first time precision rifle. I'm glad I made the PSS choice, as the accuracy is hard to beat. I purchased mine used with about 60 rounds fired. Upgraded it with Richard NEAR Picatinny 20 MOA base and the Supurb single peice NEAR ALPHA mount, reduced the trigger weight to about 2 lbs and added a Tactical Intervention M24 Sniper Cuff sling. http://www.tacticalintervention.com/modelm24usmilitary.html My rifle is at 584 rounds now, the girlfriend says she'll finance my "Mid life upgrade program" with a Mick McPhee 5R rebarrel, (Via OBTUNDED) Glass bedding, large recoil lug, Trued and faced when she reaches about 2500 rounds. She knows how to keep me happy!

I am also using the Bushnell 6500 4.5-30 Mil dot scope. It is an excellent combination for accuracy and affordability. (Soon to be replaced with a Leupold Mark 4 TMR.)

The ONLY thing I don't like about this rifle is the super looong seating depth for handloaded rounds. Seems to be a trend with the Remington 700 factory barrel. But it still shoots great!

Future upgrades will also include a detachable 10 round magazine, and possibly a A5 McMillin stock if I can find the $900 for it!

It seems that sniper type rifles are a never ending money pit!
