Rossi Puma .44 Mag

Out the door? Are you kidding? the problem would be getting them in the shop before people ran off with them all in the first place :D i"d be in for one.

I'd bet that if you had 100, 80 would be gone before the first month passed and the rest wouldn't last long. Especially if people could pre-order.

:agree: :agree:

I would be all over one as well...44mag or 45LC would work for me.

Any chance of sourcing these Gary?

Forget the Puma way to pricey for the average nut and others are selling them as we type.... If you are the first guy in Canada to get the Rossi Ranchhand's in .44mag, .357 and 45 colt you will not have a problem getting them out the door for around $500.00

I like this option....even I dont want to pay 1300 for one of these incredibly ###y guns....I'm going to focus my efforts on the Ranch hand, I have a few calls waiting to be answered...cross your fingers....

Looks like there is a distributor that has exclusive rights to the Ranch hand in Canada. I have made contact with them and expressed my(our) interest and they said the will investigate it further....still not sure of the legalities...looks like it is out of my hands for the moment...but I will press!!! Ill keep everybody posted.

Here is a You Tube video of a JB Custom Mares leg. These are customized versions of the Ranch Hand according to Steve Young, a Rossi 92 expert.

these rifles are not rossi's ranch hand

this is pulled directly from jb customs website
"Made for us by ARMI SPORT-CHIAPPA FIREARMS, Italy"

chiappa is the company making all the 1892 rifles for puma now , including the mares leg .
rossi isn't making rifles for puma anymore , and is now in a partnership with taurus .

the mares leg that is available right now is the chiappa version , which is going for 1300.00 to 1500.00 .

rossi's ranch hand won't be available till dec this year .

Maybe JB Custom used the Rossi in the past. Here is a quote from Steve Young in the thread that i was getting my info from.

I pretty well agree with Joe Miller.

Sure they look neat, but they are not very usable.

FWIW, Rossi does not list the Ranch Hand on their website.

This think might not be anything more than a trial balloon to see how many folks are interested.

personally I got no interest in the awkward thing.

Steve,

I'm not arguing with you about the legality issues, but the receiver was forged as a rifle receiver even if never assembled as a rifle.

I can remember way back when Remington intorduced the XP-100 a few months later they introduced the Models 600 and 650 using the same action. From what I heard Remington introduced the XP=100 first because a rifle made on a handgun action would be acceptable to BATF (no"E" in those days) but a pistol built on a rifle action would require Federal Tax Stamps.

Has this stupid rule been changed or merely differently interpreted?

DPris wrote:
As with the Chiappa Bounty Hunter, and as noted above, if the receiver HAS NEVER BEEN ASSEMBLED AS A RIFLE, it requires no federal tax stamp to own or possess when built as a handgun.
That's it & that's all.
The Rossi version would fall into exactly the same category as all of the similarly constructed Chiappas, one of which I own & had to do no more paperwork with than the yellow sheet I do on all regular non-NFA purchases. :)
Denis

Hi Doc,
I think part of the reason the rule has been so muddled is because the BATF has tried to define it so many different ways. As Denis said these Rossi made guns are considered to be handguns so no additional paper work is required at this time. In other words it wouldn't surprise me if this changed.
This has been an on going problem with the rules. The interpretations seem to change. Another one that has my attention is how they are trying to re define manufacturing. I have read where they have even ruled that re-bluing a gun is now considered to be manufacturing.

BTW, this gun is not new. For awhile JB CUSTOMS was selling this same Rossi made gun.

Another of Steve's post in the same thread,

"They didn't catalog it so I bet it's a planned limited run. Probably left over parts from the JBCUSTOMS deal."

UPDATE: Looks like the Ranch Hands will be available to us in late fall. Pricing is sketchy at this point but me thinks it will be on the expensive side($750-900) A price increase (rather large) is expected for the whole Rossi lever line. ( Take advantage of any ROSSI's now as price will go up). Calibers of the Ranch Hand should be .38 Spl./.357 Mag., .44 Mag. and .45 Colt. Looking forward to these...will start to look for some cool accessories..ie: holsters and loops...
