358 NM #### Thread (well, HVA preferred, of course)

Rick,

... I was describing the felt recoil from the light HVA rifle. The .358 NM caliber itself is worth about the same as the .375 H&H and that's why I was comparing both. So, no worries, you choose the right caliber for your baby.

Andy,

I am more into metric calibers, so here's a picture with a .308 Win, a 8X57, a 9.3X62 and the (unbulleted) Norma Mag.
The case itself is basically a .300 WM cut down of about 0.100"
Ballistically, it provides about the same performances than a 375 H&H thowing a 250 grains bullet. The heavier bullets are less current, though.

Noel, You're cheating too!!!
I'll start another thread for all the HVA models.

I almost bought one of those years ago, before I became smarter.

All those great pics and not one of the round itself?? How about a pic of the 358 NM beside a 35 Whelen for comparison?

For all intents and purposes, the 35 Whelen is a necked up 30-06. I don't know if it will help but as a rough idea of size difference, the 35 Whelen to the 358 Norma Magnum is about the same as comparing a 30-06 to a 300 Win. Mag.

Notrhing serious there, Noel :D... you guys are just too "primed".. I can only laugh at that.
BTW, When I started this thread, I knew I was opening a Pandora Box ! G:

Now, get yourself a .358 NM and post it here!!!!! :)

Very nice bjake:). There have been a couple of pictures posted lately of rifles with that stock design. A while back I had a Sako in 338WM with a similar stock. I've never seen a Dumoulin rifle but reading some of Elmer Keiths books, he had a very high opinion of them and the quality. Congrats on a nice rifle.

If only I could....how does one go about finding a 358NM?

Actually, in my shear stupidity I turned down that beauty of Mr. Petersons when Why Not was first selling it:redface: But that rifle in the first post is gorgeous....that's what I'm keeeping my eye out for.

That it is:).
Before I picked up the the Husqvarna from Ted, 240gord offered me a 358NM in a Brno that I turned down as then, I was holding out for a Schultz & Larsen. Perhaps PM him as he still may have it.

Also, in the Equipment Exchange forum under Exchange of Hunting and Sporting Arms, perhaps post you're looking for one. 264magnum has one long standing wanted ad in there already though for that and similar rifles.

I would but I have this 9.3 affliction.

I too, don't worry, - I think you already know that, anyways - but the addiction just grows on you like syphilis... and end up spreading in different calibers... but all close one from the other...

Yes, Dumoulin hard-rocks!

But that rifle in the first post is gorgeous....that's what I'm keeeping my eye out for.

Sorry, no chance I depart from it, buddy, this one I've been waiting sooooo loooooong for her, now we're married...
