ATT Registration

Non restricted can be "lent" to a friend and don't require an ATT which is the crux of this problem. As long as they're non-restricted you can transport them anywhere... it's the whole having an ATT to transport them from somewhere to somewhere that is causing the problem.

I still think a safe with a clear explanation of required storage for restricted firearms is the way to go. Mine was concerned about firearms in the house as well - but I'm getting a safe - and after discussions about it - I have clearance for as many as will fit in said safe.

Central storage, what is wrong with that?

There is a lot wrong with that. I think the point Prestwich was trying to make was it gives the gov't the idea of "Hey, How about make it illegal for anyone to store a firearm at their residence and have a 'central storage' post where everyone could go and 'check-out' their guns, like the library, and have them bring them back when they're done."

Well the first thing that popped into my head was Central Storage at the range you are a member of ... no ATT required since your guns are on the premesis!

I think it would be nice in some respects not worrying about an ATT, just show up at the range, unlock your "locker/safe" and have access to your stored guns and ammo.

What happens when you want to shoot at a match though?? I understand where you're coming from - but the less access we have to them the more it opens the door to more restrictions.

Don't you have to be a member of the club to shoot a match? If so, your guns will be at the match facility - unless you are a member of more than one club.

I think the option would be nice for recreational shooters like myself, don't have to worry about packing up my arms and taking them home - just leave them at the facility and I can show up on a motorcycle or use my car and I wouldn't have to carry anything with me.

And if the range is an outdoor one located outside the city? Where local kids continuously enter to drink beer and have bonfires? Storage might be an issue there, no? And again.... central storage just brings us that much closer to never having the need for storage. Not to mention, My stuff at MY property. I bought it, own it, and will store it.
Danimal247, care to share why this change of heart about firearms in the house?

Danimal, you seem like a nice guy.

But if you keep promoting central storage, someone is going to step on your internet ##### pretty soon.

I say this with all genuine care for your well-being - stop talking about central storage of firearms, or put on your flamesuit and get some hot dogs... ;)

Well I don't think the woman thought I would be getting my license for real lol...you see, I'm the type of guy who comes up with an idea out of the blue and goes for it immediately. The decision to get my license and shoot handguns came about in a few weeks at most, it was sort of shrugged off until now when it's actually time to get my license (if all goes as planned wth a little bit of luck) and I've put money down on a Sig, bought ammo cans, eye and ear protection, hopefully a safe (today @ costco if I can find one), etc it's pretty intimidating. Also she does not have any interest to shoot, so all of this stuff is arriving at the house and it's like "when will it stop" - funny thing is I already want a norinco cq-a, mp 15-22, shotty, couple more pistols and a .22 plinking rifle lol!!

Sounds like her and I need to talk. :)

I remember reading a thread somewhere about putting the gun out on the table with the action open and "waiting" for something to happen. The reality is that yes they can be a little intimidating when you have no experience with them - but they aren't dangerous in and of themselves. It takes either crazy, careless or psycho for firearms to become something you have to worry about.

I'll admit - when I was first talking about my license - I really wasn't sure about having them in my house. However, I realize that there is nothing to be concerned about - safety and storage requirements (plus a solid dose of common sense) make accidents unlikely. Since there may be children in my future I have decided that a safe will be a mandatory storage option. (Also makes things more difficult to pick up and walk away with.)

I think knowledge is key here. Even if she isn't interested in firearms - knowing how to make sure they're unloaded and put away safely may make her feel better about them. If she can check them herself then she never needs to fear accidents if she encounters a firearm.

I show'd my Gun to my Wife today and she was mostly concern'd on how to pick it up and proof it safe ,just to handle it . After that i show'd her how to stand and hold it ,pull the Trigger and aiming .

My Hope is when i take here out to the Range that she also likes it and takes here RPal ,too.

She of course was almost heartbroken when i told her that a Walter PPK is not allowed here in Canada. " They are sooo cute ", was the original Comment from her.

Scenario:

A "co-habitor" has changed his/her mind and decided it's no longer a suitable thing to have a firearm in the house.

Is it possible to register an ATT with friends/family residence and pick up from their house when going to the range? They would have to own a PAL suitable for restricted firearms, correct?

exchange your Partner for an other one . If you don't want to, then store some of your Stuff in my Safe and the Rest at Silver-wlf's .

Don't ask us. (It's not our prerogative.)

Central storage, what is wrong with that?

I would never want to meet up with someone who has my gun, I will be shooting more often than the people I meet so it would never work out and I would hate bothering them just to get my gun.

Other than storing at my primary residence, what are my other options for what I am looking for? I saw the temp ATT but will that allow me to transfer to the range?

Ideally it would be nice to rent a storage space and have my gun safe installed there so I can pick up and go and never have to bring it home.

Put the gun safe in your basement or if you have an attached garage you can put it in there. Guns are in there at all times, she never has a reason to even lay her eyes on them if she's that scared(brainwashed) of them. Not like she's going to be making your supper while having a .50 cal bmg rifle sitting on the kitchen counter!:p
