Maverick 88, first impression

Bought one for my father a few years back and It refused to eject spent shells from 3" slugs (not sure what brand, knowing my dad it was whatever was the cheapest!). Other than that, the gun has run quite well.

Bought mine from Wholesale a couple years back. I dura-coated it flat black, she lives in the truck and gets abused. Never missed a beat. Only improvement was to machine the 18.5 barrel to take Rem chokes. Works great, never jams, work dirty and wet. Good buy IMO.

here is mine just got it and love how it shoots going out again today :dancingbanana:

I shot one for about 25 years, never did wear it out, it's one of the single bar actions and that was the only problem the gun ever had. Very first time out hunting in -10 weather the bar broke free of the fore stock, used vice grips for the rest of that hunt. Modified a Remington wooden fore stock and used epoxy to keep it attached, painted it black and that was it. Plain 30 inch barrel and full choke, awesome on birds with Tungsten Matrix. Recently upgraded to a Supernova Tactical, I don't regret that either although the Maverick will continue to see use for sure.

Funny price, I paid 199 at Canadian Tire 25 years ago....

I went with the 24" barrel on my 88 with improved cylinder choke. I would prefer interchangeable choke tubes, but for the price it can't be beat. It worked great on anything I encountered at the farm!

Pitboomer, where did you get that case? I'm envious;)

I had a Mav. 88 years ago that I'd only put 50 rounds through. I gave it to my former father in law as a gift (second worst decision of my life - don't ask me about my first!!)

Damn good shottie.

I miss it.
