Whats up with remington rimfire ammo?

i picked up a box of yellow jackets and target standard velocity rem yesterday, and they have zero crimp and no tension on the bullet! seriously, i can spin and wobble the bullet very freely in the case. i have had ammo before that i can turn the bullet in the case but not like these. this is the first time i've used remington ammo as i normally only ever use federal or winchester bulk but couldn't find any.
Has anyone ever noticed this and how do they shoot? i can see the velocity variances being all over the road.
 
I have never found newer Rem 22lr ammo to be that good. Even the target is not that consistent. However like any RF ammo different guns have different tastes. I have some long out of production Rem Rifle match that is superb however in a couple of my rifles.
 
I bought a 500 box of remmington thundercats (or something) and they are crap. at 25 yards I got no cluster and 3 shots went 3 different ways. I also found that federal wasn't any better. CCI and Winchester were the best. American Eagle is made by Federal so I didn't even try.
 
Remington is the last brand of ammo I would recommend to anyone. It's filthy crap.
 
I had a brick of that thunderbolt crap, and in one sitting, between 3 rimfire guns I was using, all 3 looked like they fell down a chimney. Last time I'll ever use it. Had to clean the crap out of the guns after. My reliable S & W 422 pistol jammed after 40 rounds. It was like black powder or something. Just throw it out, or trade it to some dumbass kid 2 for 1.

Put a brick of thunderbolt through my 10/22 and same result, filty dirty. It functioned well though, accuracy was decent for plinking. Would never use again because how dirty this stuff was.
 
picked up a brick of 500 remington and had to bring it back. out of the first 50..7 were FTF. try another brand...remington is good for center fire but rimfire

yeah, i thought as much. i've never used it before but bought two boxes of 50 out of necessity, but i think i'll put in in the safe and leave it there. i don't like the thought of fouling the crap out of a levergun. too much of a pain to disassemble for cleaning. i'll hold out for another box of federal... at least they have a decent crimp.
 
I've only shot Yellowjackets in my Cooey 600, but I've noticed the same thing in that they all have a loose bullet. I do like their expansion though.
 
The low end Remington .22LR ammo is just that, low end. Personally, I won't use Remington .22 ammo in any of my 22's.

Funny thing is, they ALL seem to love American Eagle ammo.
 
I have put over 5000 rounds through my 10/22 in the last month, federal bulk ammo was the worst for firing, but the crimp on the remington was almost non-existant, I could not pull the lead out by hand but it sure spins freely,
what is the best ammo?????
 
Honestly, I've never had ANY problems with American Eagle - which is made by Federal.

I have a bolt, lever, semi, and pistol .22, and have never had any problems with the AE. Go figure.

BTW, all my .22's are made by different manufacturers, and the lever is a Remington.

I like the yellowjackets. They function the best by far in my 10-22 and just happen to be the most accurate by far in the same rifle. They are also very accurate in my LH Savage .22. They might be a bit dirtier than the Winchester bulk that I also use but a little extra cleaning is a small price to pay for me. Does wicked damage to the gophers to boot.

I agree. I have never shot any Remington .22, of any flavour, that was not absolutely filthy. I have had great luck with the American Eagle, same as Shredder. It shoots great (clean and reliable) in every .22 I have, bolt, lever or semi.

And as for the original topic, remington is by far the crappiest crap you can run through a .22.
Every test I've ever seen has the various types of remington at the largest velocity spread when run through a chronograph.
And it's insanely dirty stuff.
