Some will argue that this rifle doesn't belong in this forum, but it is a stock review, and the gun is accurate so please read with an open mind.

Being that there are very few options for Savage centerfeed stocks I paid the extra for a SSS stock and thought I should share the experience.

I have had this stock for a bit now. I bedded it right off the bat. It came standard with dual aluminum pillars.

I have to say for an unfinished stock this required next to no finishing other than the finish itself.

This is the stock right outta the box.

Next thing to my surprise was the inletting was 100% perfect. No kidding. There was no need for breaking out the dremil to do any fitting for the action or barrel at all. I give SSS a big hand for a A+++ job on the quality of there work.

Update:
Since I posted this I have come to find that they recently stopped shipping there products to Canada. I am going to call them today and see if they are working on getting an exporter as I have dealt with them a lot in the past and it would be a shame to lose their products.

I can't remember the total I payed but the dollar wasn't s high when I ordered so I think it was about $450 plus/minus after it was all said and done. I notice that the price has gone up $25 since I got mine so factor that in as well.
On the minus side the stock took a long time to finish. I was told the stock would take about 12 weeks, It was well over 8 months before it actually showed up. Things may have sped up at SSS since, but I was a little discouraged by the long wait time.

I finished the rifle with Truoil and Birchwood/Casey stock wax. It is a very meticulous process to get this right. I did a lot of coats before I found the best thing to do is a few heavy coats with 0000 wool buff job between coats. After a few heavy coats are hard a color sand job is necessary and then do a couple extremely light coats, just enough to shine it up again. Its not perfect, but sure is shiny.

Overall this is the nicest laminate stock that I have worked with and well worth the extra loonies. Hopefully for those considering this stock your lead time will be shorter than mine.

Chris Wilcox in Cherryville BC makes the laminate stocks sold by Range Sports Unlimited, that are - for all intents and purposes - identical to the one shown here. He also makes a damned fine laminate thumbhole.

I find buying directly from RSU to be a bit on the steep side, but Wilcox will sell direct. Also, if you are interested in a beautifully mill-inletted laminate you should consider a Carl Bernosky stock. He will inlet for nearly anything. I also had it in 3 weeks.

Not a single Stevens 200 slam in this post.

Hey Magnum Peanut, very nice rifle. Good job on the bedding, it looks great.

Have you talked to SSS yet about them being able to once again ship to canada in the future? I am seriously hoping that they get it sorted out!! Maybe we could get an authorized distributor here for some of their products(maybe wishfull thinging).

Huge bummer because I had planned an order in the recent future with them.

I emailed a couple hours ago. I also said they should have a representative on CGN.

No email...oh well, I guess I am going to have to spend the money on a stock blank for my .22, and maybe some new optics as well...oooooh, I might be more ok with this than thought. I do feel bad for those who ordered and didn't get their stuff...they should get their money back.

I would hope they would cancel there orders and get a refund. That or go through an exporter.

I was emailing Lisa at SSS today and had a conversation with her.

The current orders that are already placed, will be shipped through a qualified exporter out of Chicago. No further orders will be taken from Canadian buyers, even for an accutrigger spring

She has also told me that currently the amount of orders out of Canada is very, very, very small and the export license fees as up there...

well it's sad, as I like SSS stuff and have ordered from them numerous times

THE END

I ordered two 9 round mags for my 10FCP, I got one through but the second had to wait for the next batch. That one never made it through, stuck in the States
