Rishu_Pepper came out to Vokes Range in Chilliwack and shot his first ever 300-600m match this weekend.

He was only going to come out for the Saturday but I believe he had so much fun that it was easy to talk him into showing up for today as well.

RP placed 3rd in F-Open in his first match and even beat myself and the other shooters on a few relays.

Congratulations on your first match......hope to see you at many more.

I think he will be a force to be reckoned with with a little more trigger time under his belt.

We had some wicked switchy conditions at Vokes this weekend (worst I have seen there) and winds that were tossing hats off heads so keeping them in the 4 was a good thing. The 3's sure sucked tho...LOL

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Machinist shot in his second ever match at Vokes this weekend (last time was over a year ago) and also placed 3rd in the F-TR Class.

I had the pleasure of shooting with Machinist and scoring for RP all day today.

Unfortunately the powers that be had only plaques for the Winner and Runner up in each of the F-Classes.......It would have been nice to a see these new shooters receive some hardware to take home.

I know Chris was pretty pumped about his performance and so he should be, he was up against some of the best shooters in BC in the aforementioned switchy, horrible, windy conditions today and yesterday.

The only thing missing from the weather was a thunderhead to make some of the wet coasters feel more at home. :D

Congrats guys.....

I have to say, the 'BC Roll' rifle he had custom made sure looked like a shooter in its "coming out" thread.

Glad to hear that he put it to good work on the line in competition!

Congrats, Rishu!

Beating you on a "few relays"? I think it was the first 300 that I outscored you by a single point and that was it ;) It was all downhill from there.

Yeah I was pretty pissed when Fred decided not to give me a plaque :p:stirthepot2:

Dude... it wasn't a ### reference! :p

I hope you didn't honestly think I was implying something about your ###uality? Perhaps I should have said "show-n-tell" thread to avoid the confusion? :)

LOL it's all good. Although most people would probably think "coming out" does have that kind of connotation ;)

Glad someone was paying attention. :D

Sorry for that last 4....you should have went with your instinct on that one....LOL

Haha your instinct saved me from many ugly 4's and 3's, so it's a good trade-off. :D

Huge congrats to both you guys. You both shot outstanding matches, wind or no wind. The conditions sure humbled me, and sent me home with my tail between my legs. Much work to do, to sharpen my mirage/wind reading skills.

Thanks !!

Thanks Richard ,
Yeah that was pretty lame and i have to say low class and dissapointing for us third place shooters not to be recognised , all the matches that i have attended there have been awards for third place and on two a day matches awards for top scorers for the day , this was a difficult shoot with bad wind conditions and constantly changeing conditions even our seasoned shooters found it a real challange and for us first timers we did not even know our zero's for the different ranges so we had that to deal with as well and to place where we did and not get recognised was a real bummer  I hope the powers that be re think the way they hand out awards and do the rite thing the next time .

Awards are at the discretion of the Match Director, every match will be different as far as awards.

Most use the 3-6-9 rule
3 shooters in a class = 1 award (1st)
6 shooters in a class = 2 awards (1st and 2nd)
9+ shooters in a class = 3 awards (1st, 2nd and 3rd)

I can't recall how many F-TR there were in the list.

Congrats to all the winners, and of course to Chris and Brian for a fine showing indeed.

As noted by Richard, awards are up to the discretion of the match director. At the three ISSF matches held at Mission this year, I erred on the side of "more than less" to try to encourage more shooters and new shooters....and some may fault me for that.

Nope....never. Not from me anyway.......:stirthepot2:

New shooters need the encouragement to come out again and again. As little as a medal or plaque may seem to some, to others it's a reminder that they had some fun, did well and got something to take home and hang in the reloading room. Once you have enough on the wall you start to think what you can make out of the things.....wind chimes has come up in conversation before...LOL

Mark A started this right (here in Kamloops anyway) and I have continued with the daily and overall Agg accomplishments at our club level matches.

Club matches are where most of the new shooters start and this is where the encouragement needs to come from.

I think Mission took their share of ribbing for past events and Brian has taken the reigns and done it right.

My $0.02....

I would have been ecstatic if I had come home with a plaque/medal of some sort, but really, the time I spent learning from Richard/Bill + many others was much more valuable than any medal could ever have been.

Like the old saying goes, if it's something good, you have to EARN it. :)

Hope you guys enjoy the photos.

I didn't get my Kestrel out but hats were flying off heads and I suspect gusts were up to 15-20 as they were in Winnipeg and a lot less readable since there are trees lining either side of the range that cause swirls on the short side of the range.
