Ok, is this in the works or is it vaporware? I'd love to have one for hunting season. Any updates at all?

I'm going to go ahead and cross post with the other thread to ratchet up the pressure :)

Slap my pee pee if you want to, but this seems like the perfect bush gun for me!

Based on what seems to be the general idea, what is major different from a 10FCM Scout that is already available from Savage? It just seems like folks are talking about making a custom rifle that is basically already offered. No trying to rain on people here, maybe I am missing some pertinent differences.

The barrel is 20.5 inch but is this really very different than 18.5 inch? The scout is an easy to carry and accurate rifle for deer in Ontario bush (IMO). It's been my go to deer rifle for a couple of years now.

One point, the Williams WGRS sight it comes with is a pain in the ass to zero. Williams makes better models, with screw adjustments. If going custom or semi custom, opt for a bit better quality peep sight.

I would hope, despite the poll results, that we go with the 16" barrel. There are a few 18.5 - 20" barreled guns already on the market, but VERY few shorter. Another reason for this is you can have the barrel legally cut down to the 18.5" mark.

Looking at ballistics as well, in a .308 95% of the powder is burned in the first 11" of the barrel, so there is little speed lost with a shorter barrel.

Also, this rifle wouldn't be configured as a scout. Standard scope mount or peeps seems to be the consensus.

The only other rifle that I have found that would equal the stats of this rifle would be the Ruger M77 compact, which would be more expensive. Are there any more compact bolt action rifles with ~16" barrel with a standard scope mount?

Not to plug the Savage Scout too much, but it does come with a peep and is drilled and tapped for conventional bases as well as the scout base it is supplied with. When I was doing my initial load testing / development, I had mounted a scope in the conventional location on the receiver.

I guess if I didn't already have a 20 inch barreled rifle set up like this, I would be interested in a 16 inch model if it could be available. Not enough difference IMO for me to consider changing.

Regardless - short, light, peep sights (or scope) detachable mag = Very Good Deer Rifle IMO :D

Yeah, I can see that. If I didn't already my current scout I would be very interested. Looks like you all are looking for something I was after a couple of years ago and got.

I was actually in contact with Savage and about to order a custom rifle made to their old scout specs. Then they told me that they were going to re-introduce what is now the current Scout rifle. Really good customer service in my opinion as they could have hosed me for custom rifle at higher cost.

I'll keep my eye out to see how this turns out in the end. Hope all the Nutz are satisfied when all is said and done, and lots of deer get packed in the freezer.

Over 8000 views, over 200 posts, and at least 100 rifles to be bought....

...and no news for months and months.

Not even a tease? An acknowledgment of my torment? A nugget I can ponder, play with, twist in my mind, masturb....err, love?

I SHALL NOT BE IGNORED (hopefully... )

Anything?!?!?!?

I realize I may not have said please in my previous posts. How rude of me. I am truly sorry...

CanAm: A please would be nice.

jackenape: Come again?

CanAm: I said a please would be nice.

jackenape: Get it straight buster - I'm not here to say please, I'm here to tell you what to do and if operating a business is an instinct you possess you'd better f**king do it and do it quick. I'm here to buy - if my money is not appreciated then lotsa luck, sir.

Other interested buyer: No, Mr. jackenape, it ain't like that, your money is definitely appreciated.

CanAm: I don't mean any disrespect, I just don't like people barking orders at me.

jackenape: If I'm curt with you it's because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast and I need you to reply fast if you wanna get my money. So, pretty please... with sugar on top. Give us a f**king update.

:D:D:D
***note for people who don't get it. It's from Pulp Fiction. No ill will implied, I'm seeing if humour gets a response. ;)

Well, after half a year, I guess I'll give up and buy a different rifle.

Too bad, it would have been perfect for me. Oh well, I understand. I hope it does eventually get off the ground for all the others who are waiting.
