It was never set in stone. As we stated it would be at least 6-12 months if it goes ahead. It will likely go ahead at some point.

We'll let you know.

I try to keep all the threads updated, I think I do pretty well, but there are only so many hours in the day.
 
My preferences:

16 inch barrel with iron sights. Don't care about the stock or what kind of irons.

My reasoning - 16 inch barrel is unique, you can't do that yourself. Anyone can cut down a stevens to 18.5, you can't to 16.

Plus, I love how easily short-barrel carbines point in the bush. My win 94 is great for Salal/coast forest, but it's a 30-30, so I don't really like to use it out past 150 yards. Not sure what kind of distances a 308 with 16 inch barrel would be accurate out to, but worth finding out.

As a side note, I'm also a fan of 7mm08, since stevens already makes them..... maybe an option? This would make it a gun my girlfriend could use, since she has trouble with anything heavier and longer than a win 94, but wants to start deer hunting.
 
16" barrel, iron sights (preferably with a rear peep, or at least easy to install one cheaply), detachable clip useful but not necessary...I'll take one.
 
Yea sure, if you bring some lefties in, probably with peep sites, but with the availability to mount a scope. Also with the Accutrigger, accu-stock, hindged floor plate (1st), detachable mag (2nd). If it's the clip, maybe an extra clip, I have lost a few over the years. And 18.5 barrel, or a 20.

I seen the mock up pics and having read that there would be very little loose in velocity (and hopefully little lose in accuracy). I think that the 16 or 16.5 barrel would be good.

I don't see any left hand models with the Stevens, so that option is out for me. So if you make some in left I would pick one up, and order one in right for my son. And the clip would be fine, and a decent recoil pad.
 
My vote is:

18.5" Barrel
Ghost ring sights with scope mounts possible
Savage base, not Stevens
FIXED magazine/ floorplate. (Starting to join the crowd that doesn't like small plastic magazines that are 1 oz. and get lost easy... and cost $50 plus to replace).

How I currently feel:
Must have... ~16" barrel, detachable magazine
Not sure about... accu trigger, peep sights
 
I voted for the Stevens with 18.5" BBL, and peep sights. I would prefer the Stevens because I'm a blind magazine person.......mags just over complicate a rifle in my oppinion.

Ok, so this 16" barreled .308 should take AIA-type 10 shot mags, and then 'Rinco should tool-up and make a shipping container full of them!

I'll bet Can-Am would sell the mags by the hockey-sock full. And having another boltgun that uses them would be a plus!
 
A 16-inch barrel would make this a unique and desirable rifle. Something in the 18 or 20 inch range has no appeal whatsoever. There are are lots of 20-inch carbines on the market now...and anybody can make their own by cutting down a longer gun.

.308 works great in over 16" barrels, is a very popular and multi-purpose round, and has a lot of reloading potential and plentiful quality brass. IMO it would make more sense.

a short Savage .308 like the Ruger Frontiers but with quality iron sights and a detachable mag would sell like hotcakes. CanAm: if you havent thought about it yet, and Savage is letting you customize, you should also consider the tactical style oversize bolt handle. it may only cost $5 more at the production stage per rifle but would add a bit more appeal since a lot of people change over to these anyway. they dont add weight (theyre hollow) but they do add a much more positive feel to the bolt.

Yup...I was waiting for someone to mention an oversize bolt handle. I really liked mine on my model 12. So a 308 with a 16.5 barrel, peep sights, detachable mag and oversized bolt handle in stainless, synthetic. I didn't read all 24 pages here...but one other thing that would be pretty groovy...a slightly heavier contour barrel (not quite varmint but more than say a reg sporter AND a 10 round mag or two for the savage would be boss). I know...just dreaming now.
 
I like the idea of 18.5" barrel and ghost ring sights. Sounds like real "truck gun" material. In the Stevens, no Accutrigger. Just an ugly, reliable, accurate gun.

Exactly!! Any factory length can be cut a crowned to give you a 18.5" carbine, there is no need for a "special order".

I can also buy a 26" bull barrel prefit if I want to do a barrel swap to wring the most FPS out of some cartridge but any barrel under 18.5" is certainly unique and worth consideration.

I like the thoughts of this.
Any of the 308 based rounds would work for me.
As a limited addition to the limited addition the 250 Savage would be interesting.
As it has been suggested peep sights would be nice with a NECG sights that will fit on the rear scope base with a blade front sight would give you options.
