I have a cousin who is getting ready to get back to Afghanistan and my family through a party for her on the weekend. I got talking to her about guns and she said she will be carrying a Sig 9mm on base. (shes in the airforce and spends 99% of her time in an office).

I asked her if she knew how many rounds they got to carry in the pistol and she said "only 10". she didn't know the model number, but i assume its a p226 and i know they can hold more than 10 shots when not blocked...now im hoping she was mistaking when she said "only 10", but i don't know..

Does anyone know how the military is regarding pistol mag cap?

Thanks

The P220 single-stacks are only 9+1 IIRC?

I know virtually nothing about SIGs, however, so someone will undoubtedly correct me if I'm spewing misinformation.

correct on the info, if Im not mistaken the 220 can have a 7, 9, or 10 round mag in 45 ACP only. The 9mm comes only in 9.

Not many cats get to carry a Sig either. The only guys I knew carrying one were CP, and the invisibles.

- Edit - Oh yeah... and Meatheads too.

I'm going to guess she has small hands and can't hold the BHP well.

Mags are what they are, not neutered :D

If you have 20rds you load each mag to 10.... unitll you get more rounds to top them off to max

225 holds 8rds Shes probaly talking about that "but the airforce may have some stupid rule that if you load more then 10rds in a P226, it will exploded

WE DONT NOT BLOCK MAGs in the CF period

WE DONT NOT BLOCK MAGs in the CF period

That being said, I ran 10 round stainless Mecgar BHP mags because I knew they worked and I could get more than 2 rounds off before it jammed. The issue mags suck.

I confirm that the P225 holds 8+1.

BY the way, we haven't been known as the "Canadian Armed Forces" in a long time. We are now just the Canadian Forces. Makes us more politically correct. We are, afterall, the kinder gentler army.

IIRC, the only reason the single stack magazine design was chosen (Sig Sauer-225) was for aircrew safety in ejection seat escape, from high performance jets.
The slimmer grip profile tucks more compactly in the survival vest worn by aircrew. If the handgun cross-section was too wide, this would tend to offset the arm more outwardly because of where it was placed in it's holster in the vest. This could cause his elbow to catch on the aircraft sill upon ejection & our pilot could possibly loose his arm while leaving the jet aircraft at high speed from the rocket powered Martin-Baker seat.

I don't know, but she said everyone hates the old browning pistols lol

I said they could give them to me if they didn't want them :p

This is nothing new, in Cyprus our line NCO's and officers only had 10 rounds in thier Browning High Powers also.
When you have to account for your ammunition, this is just easier to keep track of, and easier to distribute ammuniton to numerous soldiers.

This is, purely and simply, military bureaucracy at it's finest.

There is nothing wrong with a lot of those BHPs. In fact many of the ones in use overseas are near new. The mags on the other hand are an issue (although when I was last there they were apparently being replaced with new mags). That being said I was happy to carry a 226 last roto. Gotta love having one in the pipe.:D

I remember loading up 10 rounds per mags on a range in BHP. No one could provide and explanation why and was more or less told to "shove it private". That was back in 2004, with some reg force MPs.

I've caried the BHP, one up the pipe outside the camp was the SOP.

That's enough out of you Joe!

I never understood the logic of 10 rnds in a HP either. If the mag holds more, and functions properly with a full load, load away!
