1949 Russian SKSs at Westrifle

Did you buy 1949 or later production? Wanstalls are one of our buyer I believe they still have 1949 in their store. They don't have it on display as it is only special request item. Did you ask them if you can see 1949?

I just got mine today, very happy with the rifle. I think I might still go over the stock, but the rifle itself is in "wicked-awesome" (to be technical) condition.

I'm happy enough that I was going to post a new thread in the "Wanstalls Section" just to state how happy I am, but I found this one instead.

Curtton, I'm pretty sure I have that stud on my magazine, but I JUST put her to bed in the safe, so I'll check to be sure tomorrow.

Bought a refurb online. Seems to be a 1949-50 model from what I've read.

Curtton,my rifle arrived this morning! She does not have the stud on the bottom of the mag housing either...I now have the centerpiece of my Siminov collection! Thanks again Sergey!!!!!!!!:D

and your mag looks original ? some serial number matching ? if so then yours and mine maybe an early mag type. do anyone else have the non-stud mag ?

btw, congrats ... pic please.

It was either that or no SVT's at all. You can only put 5 rounds anyway. If you want 10 rounds mags pinned to 5 , wait for about 2 month I should have it in stock. Let's move the SVT talk to milsurplus forum if possible.
 Cutting down the mag is WAY worse than frankenpinning!

My 1949 also has no mag stud. Took it apart last night, all numbers match, no crap inside the gas block, bore looks new (after a few patches soaked in Gunzilla and twice through with the bore snake) and no residue on the bolt face. Looks to have only been test fired by the factory to zero the front sight!

My gas block is also spotless but i think that thoses 1949 were all test fired after refurb before being put in storage.

Could be! I only had a small amount of carbon residue come out of the bore. The gas piston was spotless as was the inside of the gas tube. Am really impressed with the condition of the rifle!

Also the case with mine regarding the gas tube and piston. The stock is smooth but no shellac. Could youpost pics of your?:) And do you intend to shoot yours?

Pictures are posted on page three...

I do intend to shoot it. I have a Tapco stock with no bayo cut coming (going to torch off the bayonet assembly), as well as a Choate drill and tap side mount so I can put a Tasco varmint 6-24x50mm scope on it. Just have to weld on a case deflector to the rear sight and pick up a Tapco 5/20 detach magazine. Once I thread the muzzle and get a AK74 style muzzle brake on it it will be good to go. Going to be the most pimpin' 1949 SKS at the range!

Just kidding! It will remain unfired as a collector piece. Goes well with the 53' and 54' Izhevsk non refurb minty rifles and a smattering of non franken pinned rifles from the very first shipment. I have a chinese SKS for shooting.

Interesting. Some of those stocks have been re-stamped with 1949 very recently with modern arial font stamps. Maybe the Russians are prettying them up just prior to shipping them out?

Did not bother stamping my stock, which is quite fine by me. Sergei said that the stocks were beat to hell/rotted on the 49's so they were reworked prior to shipment.

Thought so,the handguard on mine does not match the stock, and the bayonet grove in the stock is pretty rough. No refurb stamps on the metal, but the stock is definetly a replacement.
