Custom XCR Barrels

XCR.JPG

You guys made a custom stock for the XCR?!

That looks so much better than the adapter setup... How much?

The issue is the bolt face size. The case head of the 7.62x39 and 6.5 Grendel should be the same as they are derived from the same parent case. Thus a 7.62x39 bolt should work for the Grendel case

Headspace is a completely different and largely irrelevant issue here because we are talking about a custom chamber specifically cut to fit the bolt and extension on hand. How can you have headspace problems when the chamber is specifically cut to fit the round using the supplied bolt?

The only potential issue with the Grendel feeding is the shape of the shoulder and body. The case was designed to feed through and AR so I am fairly certain it will work with the XCR but we are admittedly treading new ground here so I suppose that remains to be seen.

Yeah sure, we will just give away all our secrets so that anyone can duplicate our product and make the work we put into this project totally worthless. Do you want to come over and f**k my wife while we are at it? :onCrack:

dear poster
you didnt read my post very well and i have some bad news for your ego
you were not the first and not the only one to sucessfully remove an xcr extention as Herron Arms did one about a month ago and installed a custom barrel which is presently awaiting an frt number.
I will post pics for the doubters out there.

and no i dont wish to engage in anything with your wife

Actually I did read your original post. We did something you can't or haven't been able to do and you wanted us to give you all the information without having to do any of the work. You likely haven't bothered to ask RA for the same info cause they would tell you to go piss up a rope, the same as I did. Don't go away mad ......

Something smells fishy here. Why would a custom barrel require a new FRT number?

Agreed, but if you are gonna go restricted the AR would be a better choice. It is lighter, inherently more accurate and there are tons of aftermarket parts available.

That would be my thinking as well, in addition to potentially costing less money to get into an AR platform vs. the XCR.

Chizzy

Clear this up for me... am I correct in saying that now that this XCR-L is restricted it can never be turned back into a non-restricted again?

I'm thinking that Wolverine may not like it that you did this... :(

Hmmm, seems like a modified Magpul PRS2 G3 model. Interesting... Is that customer a poster on CGN?

Its a one off adapter that includes a machined duplicate from the original barrel and them alot of dremmel / Devcon work to mate the two components together.

It was not intended for heavy abuse my reasoning was to ensure i have a good cheek weld and sightline when shooting from the bench.

Suputin can ATR look into rechambering my XCR-L 223 barrel to a wildcat 224X6.8spc (necking down a 6.8spc to .224") I'm thinking that 55gr -> 60gr bullets would be awesome in this combo for coyote hunting...

Just saw that it maybe called 5.56x42...

Another cartridge I would be interested in and this would need a new barrel would be a wildcat designed by John at White Oak Armament called a 6MM WOA its slightly different than just necking down a 6.8 case from what I understand the 6 WOA was designed as a competition cartridge and has found some favor as such I am hearing that it maybe the best 6MM to be had in the AR 15 platform.

It is all about choices, otherwise everyone will still be driving around in model A Ford.

frt numbers for restricted xcr's already exist but not in this barrel length so i dont see what wolverine would be mad about.
ar's have been done to the bone, dare to be different

That shorty XCR is sure sweet looking. For a close quarters carbine I think a 12" would be sufficient in terms of accuracy no?

As far as the restricted classification goes, can you not use the restricted barrel at a range then replace it with the longer barrel to maintain the non-restricted status? Some of the legal gurus sound off here please..

Nice work Blue..
