Took my new M305 out last night. I couldn't be happier. Getting dark,very smokey yellow light, shooting off a bag of peat moss on the tailgate, 5 shot group w/one flyer and the other 4 in 2" at 100M with Cdn tire 150 grainers. I had to adjust the elevation dial a couple of spots to line it up with the 1 mark. The iron sight sticky was a great help. I haven't shot a peep sight in 17 years, but my PMI must have known what he was talking about. No function issues, recoil is very tame, trigger pull feels about 3" long, but a functional rifle w/good irons for just over $400 is wonderful! It will hunt for me this year with no changes. Yes, it is heavy, but most people carry far more extra weight under their belt all year long.

I took your advice before it was given and ordered one 2 weeks ago, can't wait to get my PAL so I can get it transfered to me and start shooting it.
ive owed about 7 M14's in my short shooting career .. and as you read this, another one is on the way to me

Don't be surprised if the iron sights crap out on you. They are reputed to be soft steel (lousy heat treating), but lately the 2009 Poly M14 I owned was decent. Their manufacturing processes have improved somewhat. Either way, for that price, it's a great deal! Sure beats paying over $ 2K for a Springfield M1A.

Can we refrain from slagging the SA's Hungry?
I just picked up a 1986 SA Super Match (all GI parts) for $3500 and I couldn't be happier about it. Buy what you like but understand for some of us price isn't everything.

My attitude towards the Chinese made rifles has changed somewhat but honestly I won't be competing for ownership of one. I know I could have purchased 11+ Norinco's for what my SA standard and SA Super cost. To each his own. The rivalry between the SA/Norinco camp does not need to be fueled. Interestingly the US based M14 site is not reflective of this one at all on this topic.
Showing up at the range with a Norinco is like parking your Civic at the mall. I have to think that an older Super Match has far more curb appeal. At least for me it does.
Please don't take this the wrong way. I understand the Norinco's have great potential and I enjoyed the clinic a great deal. They just aren't my bag baby.

Norinco and Poly Tech M14s are gaining respect here in the states as more and more people educate themselves
and overcome the vast amount of anti-ChiCom M14 rhetoric out their. Springfield M1As are marketed well and
they make a good product, but I won't buy another one as long as there is a supply of Chinese M14s down here.

Good to see that you have changed how you view the Norcs. Myself, I couldn't afford to buy an M1A, so I got what I could afford - a Norinco, and I have been very impressed with what they can be capable of with the right tweaking. I won't begrudge anyone for their choices, no matter how cheap or expensive they might be; after all, we're all shooters, and we all have different tastes. There is no right or wrong choice - only what suits you.
