Put a block out near my tree stand this morning, in anticipation of the not fast enough approaching deer season, has anyone used this stuff before. Any good???

Never tried that product. A buddy of mine did and said he would never buy it again. I just put out the 8 dollar blue and brown mineral salt blocks to help the deer through the winter. Recently I found they hit it all summer. I set my trail cam up where a salt lick used to be and 6 deer visited it in one evening. There is nothing left of it but the deer sure tore up the ground and just lick the dirt.

Ya the 2 guys who run the store where i bought it were swearing up and down that it was the greatest thing....well at least it was only 12 $ or so....we will see

There is some truth to these products, but they depend upon where you live and what minerals are naturally occurring in the soils in that area.

The main ingredients are salt and trace minerals, both of which can be found a your local feed store. Look up deer mineral lick on youtube, the one with dicalcium phosphate. I find it works well, but mainly spring thru summer.

I rounded up samples of everything my buddies had and placed them around a deer stand about 12 feet apart from each other. All had some activity, but C'mere deer and buck jam both had deer eating holes in the ground to get it. Most of this stuff is hyped up and gimicky.

I used it once in a semi-closed area FULL of deer!! They barely touched it. But they came to a pile of apples and carrots my father had in the same area.

Apples. I set them up in front of my game cam last year (just to find out i was only feeding a doe and fawn for a month).

Apples for sure. I shoot a buck every year over apples in NB where the hunter success rate is usually less than 20%. The does do come first to the apples but the bucks will come to the does later.

I just use water softener salt. I just take a little bag full with me everytime i check my trail cam. I dumped the salt about 2 weeks ago and there is a hole 4" deep and 12" across from deer pawing at the salt in the dirt.

I had given my father in law a block of the Deer Cane apple flavour last year and they had scraped away a big pit where he put it. He was very happy with the outcome.

Those cow salt licks are great the deer will tear the ground up to get to them.

Do they seem to like one over the other? I always bought the blue ones with cobalt when I raised steers for beef.
