Affordable precision (possible semi) Coyote gun? (cheap ammo caliber)

Going back to the 7.62x39. This would be my choice in the cz527 carbine. It is an excellent shooter and you can get fmj bullets from fereral or Remington as well as soft points in the remington. I won't shoot surplus through mine.
The bore is .310 and Remington And Hornady make .310 bullets for it. You can use .308 or sierra .311 bullets. It likes a fast powder like4198 and you can greatly exceed reloading manuals because their data is for the SKS type and limited to 42000psi I use Remington brass because it uses the small rifle primer alyhough I'm not sur how much difference it makes

if you are reloading why wouldnt you just get a .308, .260, or any of the vastly superior cartridges? why mess with 7.62x39 brass and limited availability of .311 bullets?

Browning Shorttrac 243.

Shoot 58grn Hornady vmax

Drill the stopper on the mag so it holds 5.
Convert it to detachable mag.

Shoots just as good as any factory bolt gun in that price range.

Yea, see I never understood the concept of reloading 7.62X39. I am pretty sure it was designed with easy disposal and cheap production in mind, as a military round. No need to make it precision, just blast away sort of deal.

I really would question how sound this idea is. Just saying.....

where are you in ontario? unless its northern ontario or you plan on going to a hunting camp, dont chose a caliber for hunting deer lol

Forget the surplus 7.62x39 and get a savage or stevens in .223, save your brass and start rerloading. It will be your tack driving fun gun for paper and your varmint getter as well.
Will easily take anything up to and including coyotes.

I think I might look into that. it's just that I have the cz as it stands, so why waste it for closet space right? I am not going further than like... 200yds.

I am still strongly considering a bolt action cheap-o gun. :)

what range - would a 17 hmr cover your needs very precise & $19 - 20 bucks for box of 50.I'm pretty sure there are semi's availabe . noise & recoil are almost nill

the ammo cost thing keeps coming up.
.17HMR is cheap, but takes a huge performance hit from .223 and is not that much cheaper. .223 40 round bulk packs are around $24 while 50 HMR are up to nearly $20.

to be honest, i would just go out and buy a quality .22LR bolt gun before you buy anything else.
specifically bolt-action (or hinge) because it will handle any ammo you feed it from acorns, .22 shorts, .22LR CBs, subsonics, all the way up to stingers/velocitors. some of these will not function or are not recommended in semis. you can, naturally, get a semi but you will be limited in your ammo choices and may have to cycle subsonic ammo manually.
ammo is diiiiiiiirrrrt cheap, pennies a round, and you can afford to go to the range or just plinking and shoot hundreds of rounds whenever you like. i have many guns but the most fun by far is a .22LR. if you do not have one in your arsenal then i highly recommend you get one before you blow your wad on anything else - you will not regret it.

as for coyotes? some people seem to think that you need .223 and up to hunt them. personally i would not hesitate to shoot coyotes with CCI Velocitors if they were <100 yards.

this is one of my .22s - its a Russian TOZ-12, thats bedded into a Winchester model 52 Target stock that i refinished and stippled. it came with aperture sights which i can install if i tip off the scope. it cost me only $200, and i have a lot more expensive guns, but this is one of my favorite and most frequently used. CBs are the most fun ammo ever invented - out of 26" barrel like this they are extremely quiet - the loudest sounds are the firing pin on the gun and the bullet thwacking against the target. everyone needs at least one .22LR in their cabinet.

now that I think about it arn't 17 hmr's not good in a semi? honestly can't remeber the reason why but I distinctly remeber reading that.

.22mag and .17hmr semi autos have quickly came and went. They seemed to have problems, but I never followed enough to tell you why.

.17hmr is fast, light and flat shooting bullet. I'd guess it was designed for hunting & punching paper before anything else.
