Milsurp Online Tournament: 100, 200, 300, 500, and 1,000 yards ~ MATCH #2 NOW ON

NICE shooting by redryder to get us started, he shot a 300-66 (300 yards, 66 points). That is really impressive stuff, and sets the mark to beat for the 300 yarders.

On Saturday Aug 21 at Port Coquitlam and District Hunting and Fishing Club (PoCo) I shot a total of 82 ( 5 rounds into target one for 46 points and 5 rounds into target two for 36 points ) at a range of 100m. I used my 1955 Lee Enfield No 4 Mk 2 with a Parker Hale rear sight and shot 174 gr handloads.

Been to the range several times- more than 80 rds through my 03A3. Best score to date was an 85 at 100 yards. I did shoot some tighter groups than this target but they didn't score as high. Bit of a zeroing problem as well as the 62 year old eyes getting a clear site picture of the small black center on this target. Got another 50 rounds ready to go. Also fired some targets with a LB #4, M38 Swede, a "new to me" 91/31 and a Norinco M14. Nothing as high as the O3A3's 85. Lots of time left for improvement.

Likewise, hit the range twice with my 91/30 - first time I realized after that I had an action screw loose, and the sights were off - gave it the cue-tip special and tightened it up, as well as relieving some of the pressure from a warped stock piece. Much better, but still nothing great. That said, Im a new shooter, and Im definitely enjoying the experience. I shoot a little bit better every time. I'm hopefully getting my x54R dies tomorrow or the day after, and that'll make the difference.

Also - is there any chance we could have posting pics of your submitted scores mandatory? If nothing else it'd be good to get a visual impression as to how folks are scoring.

Well, shot a 100-95 for the new lead in 100 yards, wanted to make 100-100! Shot two targets of 5 rounds, and combined to keep scoring clean. Who'll be the first to crack 100 in the hundred yarders?

Shot with my VZ24 again, I changed my load up and shimmed the barrel up at the end of the foreend, seems to like the forend pressure. 3 tight rounds, then two fliers for both targets. Should take more time but I was in a time rush shooting before work.

Looking forward to seeing some more rifles join the ranks, so far we have a Model 96 based Mauser leading the 300, a Model 98 Mauser leading the 100, and a Lee Enfield No.4 Mk2 posting well in the 100 as well. Look forward to the Garands, classic Lee Enfield No.1 MkIII's, some Soviet gear with the Mosins... This will shape out nicely. For me the most exciting part is seeing the old girls head to head.

My VZ24 I almost wrote off, my first day out was tough, and I only got one useable target. My bore is dark, and I hadn't tried it yet, but I'm now getting 3 shot clusters in an inch with some load development and a lot of work with JB Bore Bright. Dark bore doesn't mean a write off it seems.

My Garand targets will be in the mail soon. Had the 100m target not grouped about 2" high, the score would have been much higher, but I'm just glad to have taken her out and sighted her in. The 200m target was also fun to shoot and I was happy with the results, even if the score won't win me any fame.

Maybe I'll try a Mosin next weekend, as I have about 15 rounds available before opening the crate. I'd have to get the reloading gear out for the Mausers or K31.

Well I got called away last week and will not get back home until Sept 14 so I'm out. Will there be more of these matches in the future?
