I mentioned a while back about my friend passing away and his very anti-gun wife wanting the guns destroyed ...well the cops came last week and they are gone ...yes i offered to buy them and we begged her not to but she did anyway ..included was an abosolute mint MP stamped No 4Mk1* with the letter from the RCMP (my friend was RCMP) also one of the Winchester RCMP levers in the box as new...even the cop who picked them up tried for an hour to get her to donate them to a museum ..nope she wouldnt budge .very sad day guys ..in my will i am very specific on who gets my guns .

The wishes of the man who died should have been respected. If the man had it in him to protect those guns and keep them in good condition, it should have been apparent to anyone who knew him that these were not to be destroyed.

It seems to me that the woman never really knew her husband.

Makes me wonder if I should put an actual clause in my will that my collection WILL NOT be surrendered to police or any other party for destruction.

:puke:

Here's hoping that they did the right thng and spared them from the chop saw and put them in a museum anyway. Like she would know. Highly doubtful the widow would frequent a firearms display.

I sometimes wish I could be so blinded, dumb, thoughtless and short sighted as some (read: all) of these fervent anti-gunners. Would save me the painful process of thinking, and worrying about the future. And for those of you that think I'm joking... I'm not.

"Here are the keys to the safe. Sell my guns or I'm coming back, each and every night, until you do."

Short of metaphysical threats, I don't think you can successfully sway a fanatic.

I agree that they should have said they are being destroyed and then donated them to a museum. I recently spoke with the provincial firearms officer here in N.B. and he said he destroys around 1000 guns every year. He said around 90% are seized from criminals and only 10% are from people requesting destruction. He said they are taken to an auto scrapyard in Nova Scotia and they place around 200 at a time inside a car and roll the car through a shredder. Takes about two minutes per car and the entire works is reduced to small pieces. I have to go lay down now. I don't know why they can't auction them off to legal owners, they used to do it. Be a switch for government to raise funds instead of spending them.

I wonder if their is some point where they won't do it? What if one of the guns was a NAA 1911...still shred it? Regardless of the $20,000 value and history? Honestly, I don't care too much if they are just destroying common illegal guns or old common stuff, but I mean, they gotta at least save the really significant stuff...sigh, I'm sure nobody really cares except pro-gunners....

Sorry to hear about those RCMP guns getting destroyed. Hope the guys taking them did the right thing, as far as I'm concerned her husband would not be happy to know they got destroyed so they should be allowed to lie to her :) she would never find out!

What a shame. We all need to make sure we have a plan in place so that this doesn't happen when our time comes.

It would seem that the best course of action to ensure your wishes are carried out is to specifically state your intentions for your guns in your will.

Chizzy

Very sad indeed. The prohibited class already does enough destruction, the last thing we need is for this to happen.

My firearms are going to my children, lets just hope they make it that far.

Here's to hoping the ##### gets runs over by a drunk driver.

The irony here, is that theoretical situation is far more like than the evvvillll guuunnnns ever hurting her.

As mentioned before, this woman did not know her husband, nor did she respect him. What a shame. All of us with wives that actually love us and respect us should give them a big hug and a kiss right now and remind them how much we love them.
Doesn't matter to me if its a $ 2.00 cooey or a $ 20,000 NAA, they are all works of art and deserve better!
